He was choking a bit at the end, but still won in straight sets.

Next he will face Spaniard Adrian Menendez for a spot in the final.

well, he did not, because he withdrew before the match, probably due to injury

Menendez will face Prodon in the final

still a good tournament and start in 2008 for Kei, though I would have preferred him to play AO-quali

Well done Kei!
I shouldn't start counting chickens yet, but if he wins today he will crack into top 200 and become Japan's top-ranked player. Hope he can beat Reynolds...I think he has a good chance!

He show some talent here, keep it going Kei!

An article from ATP website.

Quote:
Japanese Teenager Storms into Semis; Querrey Advances

© Morris Fostoff
Kei Nishikori Japanese qualifier Kei Nishikori advanced to his first ATP semifinal on Friday with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over American Bobby Reynolds in the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships in Florida. He is the first qualifier to reach the semifinals in Delray since Robert Kendrick in 2003.

The 18-year-old Nishikori jumped out to an early lead and was in control of the 65-minute match. He converted four of nine break points and saved two of three break points on his serve. In the opening set, he broke twice and went up 3-2 with a break in the second set. He lost serve in the next game before breaking again for a 4-3 advantage. He then held his last two service games to reach his first ATP semifinal in only his sixth career tournament.

"I played well in the first and second rounds and I grew in confidence. I as relaxed," said Nishirkori. "I love the jumping backhand stroke, like Marcelo Rios."

Last summer he reached the quarterfinals (l. to eventual champion Dmitry Tursunov) in his second ATP tournament in Indianapolis. He compiled a 3-5 record in ATP play last year.

Nishikori, who came into Delray Beach No. 244 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings, moved to Florida at 14 years old to train at the Bollettieri Academy. He will climb to around No. 175 by reaching the semis and around No. 146 if he gets to the final.

Nishikori is the first Japanese player to reach an ATP semifinal since Shuzo Matsuoka in Beijing on Oct. 21, 1995. Matsuoka is also the last Japanese finalist and champion of an ATP tournament. He reached the final at Queen's on June 14, 1992 and won Seoul on Apr. 26, 1992.

Querrey won the 1st set 6-4

but it seems he lost the momentum now, Kei leads with the double break 3-0 in 2nd set

when Sam doesn't get the first in, he made only 5/16 points so far

HELL YEAH

great win 4-6 6-2 7-6

Kei showed brillant fighting spirit and the will to never give up on numerous occasions

apart from breaking Querrey twice and thus leading 4-0 after set 1 was lost, he was trailing 1-3 in the third set and rebroke

when Querrey was leading 6-5 it was 0:30 at Kei's serve, but he made 3 points in a row and won the game after deuce

Kei lost the first two points on his serve in 3rd set tiebreak, was consequentley trailing 0:3, but got one minibreak right back

when Querrey was leading 6:3 in the tiebreaker, Kei held twice and minibroke Querrey at *6:5

he made again two points in a row when Querrey had his 4th matchpoint at 7:6* and took his 1st matchpoint himself by minibreaking the American for the 3rd time to win the tiebreaker 9:7

this kid is just awesome
