Default Federer on clay

Okay. So now the clay bit has started. How do we see Roger faring? Think he's working on the topspin backhand? Also it will be interesting to see if he's developed the patience to deal with the grinders. I read somewhere he would lose matches out of sheer boredom.

I have no idea how Roger will be doing on clay after the amazing success since TMC. I'll just wait and see. The bottomline is that he doesn't lose 1rd in Roland Garros again But I don't think he will go into a match with that bored attitude he once had any more.

Looking forward to the clay season!

If Roger want to prove that he is a all-court player, he should get better result in Roland Garros! And I think if he can manage to, he would give a heavy blow on Ferrero and other players good at clay court.

There has been quite a long time since last clay season. A lot of things have happened in such a period of time. We all see that Roger has advanced much in less than a year, especially his mentality. He has overcome many difficulties which he had never managed to do before, such as ugly draws, unfair match schedule, pressure from the spectators of hosting countrys. He has defeated Lleyton, David and Tim who were thought as his "unbeatable rivals" one by one. And now clay season is another mountain for him to climb over, of course, Roland Garros is one of the best chances to approve his excellence and talent. I should admit that many guys like JC Ferrero and Guillermo Coria are good at clay. But, just as Andy Roddick is good at hard court, Roger beated him and proved that he could do better than anyone in the hard court, even if someone has a big serving. Roger has good baseline and excellent steps, even his speed is not bad. As people mentioned he is a 'all-court' player, one or two of his advantages won't be very evident. What he lacks now is only a chance that can prove his ability to conquer any kingdom.

Will be very interesting and certainly a new challange for Roger. Must say from all that I heard he was very comfortable on clay against Romania in DC so I have high hopes. Good luck to him.

My goal for Roger on clay is the same as my goal for Andy on clay: just get past the first round!

I'll worry about future rounds only when he finally gets past the first round.

I think that Roger is going to do quite well during the clay season, now that he is the world number one, he has got so much confidence within him that will definitely take him far even if he will be challenged on clay with the likes of Juan Carlos Ferrero and Guillermo Coria.

I thought Roger played very well in Rome last year. The final against Mantilla was strange match though, Roger hit a few too many unforced errors when it really mattered. Roland Garros was a disaster, a lot of unforced errors that day, but Roger is a different player these days. He will have to ba a little bit more patient than usual on clay, but I think he can have a great season

We all know that he advanced a lot in the last few months and I think he's so confident and happy at the moment that he takes all a bit easier than last year... he proved that he can win slams - so he will go to the french open with less pressure than in 2003!!!

Let''s see how he's doing!!!

Good LUCK Roger!!!!

Very nice Avatar, ste. I think Roger would do much better this year. I hope he will at least win 1 of the 3 events he is playing, but as long as he improves, that's all I care about.
