Hi, I'm new here but a fan of Simo, is his coach a bit of a hot head then? Or just not that clued up? The players must be so guided by their coaches that you wonder how many of these decisions are actually made by the players themselves. Is the coach Italian too?
just found this interview with Pistolesi, from 2004
says some interesting things about tennis toward the end...
"It is really a confrontation between two human beings and one has to lose! It reminds me of the gladiators in the Coliseum – I am from Rome, so I can say that! Only one can go out alive – tennis otherwise of course, from the point of view of tennis!"
yeah in the 80s. reached the dizzying heights of the Top 70. he sounded pretty intense about the game though.
my friend kindly translated what Bolelli had to say about the punishment on Sky Sports 24:
I respect the Azzurra shirt and I've always played tennis with heart. I've only asked to skip one match" Bolelli explained his version of the situation "2 weeks before the tie with Latvia, I informed Barazzutti and Palmieri that I'd like to continue the season on fast courts and skip the tie to play Bangkok and Tokyo. I took this decision together with my coach and staff. I asked to not be summoned only for this encounter, like other players did in the past, then when I saw that my name is on the list, I was surprised. I asked for cooperation from their part but there wasn't. It's not fair, I'd like to be given a little balance with my choices.
I only asked to skip one match, I didn't want to create any contoversy or create all this confusion. Unfortunately, there is no collaboration (from the Italian federation) and people now think that I refused the summoning, It's not that and I've my letter that explained these things.
the davis cup matter may have distract simone that had an horrible loss at tokyo with suzuki, that won only a match this year...ok suzuki was at home, but simone must win this matches if he want to became a top player
