Default Moya def. Ferrero 2-6, 6-2, 6-3

JC loses to Moya for the 4th straight time... Strange because these days Moya really has the mental edge over Ferrero, and before 2005 it was the opposite... When JC got broken right at the start of the second set, you kinda knew he had lost his concentration and he never broke Moya again... But Moya stayed strong till the end and played very well!

JC still hasn't won any title since Madrid 2003 Unfortunately unable to elevate his level enough when it counts the most... But I'm glad he's winning matches these days, he can take with him the positive side from his last 2 weeks

Default Re: Moya def. Ferrero 2-6, 6-2, 6-3

Moya played well and didn't panic after losing the 1st set and the Lord should be favoured to take his 3rd Acapulco title over Chela.

The game where Moya held at 4-2 was huge and he had some foibles in serving out the match, but that was a great match point where Ferrero ran down 3 smashes, but a deserved winner in Moya.

Typical Ferrero , playing well and losing . This is depressing

As for Charlie , well played and tomorrow he wins his title number 20

Finally, congrats to both players for the great match .

Default Re: Moya def. Ferrero 2-6, 6-2, 6-3

I had a sneaking suspicion that Ferrero's start was almost too good and that things were going to turn around, I'd rather he'd won though. I was looking at their head-to-head and it's worth pointing out that although he once led Moya 7-2 (it's now 7-6 with Moya winning the last four), only two of those seven victories were in straight sets. Of the others, two were 7-6 in the third and one was 7-5 in the fifth, and Moya's last three victories have all gone the distance as well. I guess that's what you'd expect from such evenly matched players.

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

The forehand drop shot was a winner for Lord Carlos.

Moya can always be counted on to come away with a title during this South American swing, he's done so for the last five years except for the two-way Gaudio-Nadal split in 2005.

Won Buenos Aires 95, 03 and 06, won Acapulco 02 and 04....

Default Re: Moya def. Ferrero 2-6, 6-2, 6-3

Indeed. JCF pays the price, yet again, for losing his focus. This should have been his easiest win of the year. Moya looked like his mind was elsewhere in the first set and Ferrero took full advantage. It could have been 6-1 or 6-0, it was so comprehensive.

Then Moya broke and took a 3-0 lead. When Ferrero failed to break back, it looked like he gave up on that set. By the 3rd set, the damage had already been done. Moya started to play with a lot of confidence and his superior serve was the difference in the end. In fact, Moya held his last 10 service games in a row.

Moya then tried to choke at the end, but Ferrero didn't let him. But it was an amazing point to finish off the match.
Congrats Moya.

As for Ferrero, it looked like there was some light at the end of the tunnel but now I can't see it anymore. This tournament could have been a turning point but it now looks like it's going to be another year of underachievement and mediocraty.

I'm not sure what went wrong with JC after the first set. So the title drought continues. Did anyone watch the match?
Anyways, Congrats Carlos, win the title tomorrow.

That was another big difference today: Moya's shot selection. So many times, Ferrero had chances to hit the dropshot but he instead tried to force it and, off course, Moya just stood metres behind the baseline and absorbed it all.
