Default Interview in English- 21/3/04

Confirmer à Miami »
21 mars 2004 - Ludovic LANGUET

Confirmed for Miami

Arnaud Clement and Sebastien Grosjean won the doubles title at Indian Wells against Black and Ullyett last week. According to SEbastien, it was a big surprise before heading to Miami to play the second TMS event of the year.

Sebastien, you won the doubles title in IW with Arnaud Clement defeating Black/Ullyet (6-3, 4-6, 7-5). Was it a big surprise?!
Yeah, it's been ages since we've played together. It's a little surprising. We didn't play all that well in the first round, but the match after that, we lifted our game. We were having heaps of fun, and for me, thats the most important thing. But yeah it's great to have won a TMS doubles trophy!

The most impressive thing was to have beaten Santoro/Llodra, the best players in the world.
Its true, we beat the number 1 and 5 teams in the world. It was a great tournament. To have beaten those teams, we had to have really played well. Arnaud is a great returner so we didnt have to worry so much on their service games. In doubles, that a huge advantage. We were able to use incorperate our strengths well together.

How do you explain this success?
Before the tournament, I hadnt played since Australia, i had arranged to play doubles with Arnaud so i could get as much match practise as possible. We didn't have any pressure on us in comparison to the other teams. Our state of mind didnt change until we rreached the final.

Even tho you won the first Masters Series of the year, you dont think that you will have the chance to play doubles in DC?
With singles, it makes it a bit more complicated. It's hard to play three matches in three days. But at least Guy knows that we can play well together now. If one of us is unfortunately injured, then that may be a different story but yeah just because we won one tournament doesnt mean that we should be the DC team, we are far from the best doubles team we coudl have.

Do you think that this has been good preparation?
Yes, its good. Even tho i lost in three sets against Coria, i played a good match. I was actually close to winning, i was up one set to love and i had the break in the second set. With doubles, i improved gradually with my serve, my volley and my returns, it's hard to hope for that than that. With Miami which starts next week, i think it'll be a better test to see how i'm going. I had a few problems on my serve but i played more consistently as the tournament went out. I'm going to have to focus on singles now and see how i go.

When are you leaving for Miami?
Its 9pm, (6pm in France) in California, i'm at the airport at the moment. I'm goign back to Boca Raton and then heading to Miami on Wednesday. I'm goign to start playign Friday or Saturday.
