Hmm losing second round of hardcourt futures tournaments now. Hopefully he can turn it around.

Seems as though it may have just been an unlucky draw as he was in good enough form to team up with Millman to win the doubles and Ouelette ended up making the final.

Great to see him in the Final this week and squeezing into the maindraw Leon Challenger despite his mid 400 ranking. And to make things even better he got one of the easier first round draws against Gallardo Valles.

Default Re: Brydan Klein: Australia's Big Hope

SF Australia F3 Klein d. Mitchell 6-3 6-0. Very solid from Brydan there and nice to see him at the business end of tournaments again. His ranking currently sits at 354 and he has 46 points left to defend until November. He has gained 15 points this week so far and is likely to win the tournament and gain 27 points. If he can back up next week again and win the tournament in Bundaberg again then he will most likely be ranked inside the top 300 and push on for the rest of the year.

His schedule is a bit up in the air though, probably needs to play a couple more futures after these aussie ones but he is looking good to get back to where he was a year ago with these types of results. When you take into account he is only 20 years old there seems to be a lot of potential there. Whoever wins the final tommorow is good for Australian tennis but I'm pulling more for Jason at this point.

Brydan won the final 6-3 6-4 over Kubler. Good week for Brydan, second futures title of the year for him. Hopefully Brydan can go back to back next week in Bundaberg and get back to playing challengers later this year.

Good job Brydan. Battled through a chest infection as well. It will be interesting to see where he goes. He is entered for the Fergana Challenger in Uzbekistan after Bundaberg. Perhaps he will do what Greg did last year and track down the easy tournaments with high rewards and get his ranking back to where it used to be.

Well actually his schedule goes like this:

3 May - Aus F3 Bundaberg (future)
10 May - Busan, Korea (challenger)
17 May - Fergana, Uzbekistan (challenger)

So the field in Korea isnt as weak as you would think but looking at the field in Fergana you would think Brydan would be seeded and would be able to win some matches.

Didn't see that. I skipped that 10-16 May entry lists. Thanks for pointing it out. Busan has a massive dropoff after Schuettler and Lu and IMO is pretty weak for a 75k Challenger although there seems to be a few hot and cold players who could shock. Some good opportunities for Brydan over the next month if he is up to it.

hopefully he takes the title, rather him than anyone else left in the draw. I'm going to predict a Klein Propoggia final with Klein taking it.

Yeah very poor list of players here pretty much the same as last week, but some good juniors made it through, good luck Klein should take the title easily from here.

http://www.news-mail.com.au/story/20...o-semi-finals/

Quote:
REFORMED wild child Brydan Klein continued to do it the hard way at Drinan Park yesterday, forcing his way into the semi-final with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Joel Lindner.

Klein showed he had the mental stamina required at the top level, as his third comeback win in as many matches set up a semi-final with Great Britain’s Myles Blake this morning.

Blake dropped just five games against Kiwi Marvin Barker in his quarterfinal, while Klein’s mammoth schedule is beginning to take its toll.

Backing up from singles and doubles triumphs in Ipswich last week, the top seed won his doubles final with Dane Propoggia yesterday and admitted he was starting to feel it.

“I’m pretty exhausted,” he said.

“I get back to my hotel and realise how tired I am, but each morning I wake up and I’m pumped again to play well.”

He could have easily thrown in the towel against a red-hot Lindner, after losing a tight first set.

In what was a replay of last week’s Ipswich quarterfinal, Klein had a chance to break at 4-4, but instead the big-serving left hander held serve and chanced his arm in the next game.

“He went for it and it paid off and he took the set away from me,” Klein said.

Facing defeat yet again, Klein became the aggressor in the second set, attacking Lindner’s serve and staying in every rally.

He jumped to an early advantage and hung on to level the match at one set each.

“My mentality at first was to get the ball back and wait for an error,” Klein said.

“But he wasn’t giving me those, so I decided to step my play up and go for some more shots.”

Lindner kept firing away from the back of the court in the third set, while the occasional serve volley kept Klein guessing.

But as the match progressed, the favourite found his groove and wore down an ailing Lindner.

Some crunching returns went for cold winners either side of Lindner and sealed his fate.

“I got into a nice rhythm toward the end and was probably playing the best tennis I’ve played at Bundaberg and Ipswich,” Klein said.

“The consistency isn’t there yet, but in patches I’m definitely lifting my game.”

Similarly to the first two rounds, Klein failed to convert in the first set, mainly due to some fierce serving from the tall left hander.

His doubles partner Propoggia will play Marcus Daniell in the other semi-final later today.

The third-seeded Daniell fought hard to overcome talented James Duckworth 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Propoggia, the seventh seed, was too good for Japanese second seed Arata Onozawa 6-4, 7-5.
He is fighting extremely well with the chest infection last week and now the tiredness after playing a fair bit of tennis (doubles and singles wins). Also worth noting he had a bit of a minor disagreement with the umpire in the first round where Klein believes he said far out but the umpire thought he said something else. Will be interesting to see of he pushes onto Busan next week.
