Hmmm.....no score for this match now, does this mean a straight set loss, or something stranger? Yes it appears, 6-2, 7-5 to Stepanek

yeah the SB is messed up but looks like he lost since the next match is already on.

In the 2nd set he was up 4-2 30-0 and got broken, then had 3 setpoints (0-40 on Stepanek's serve) at 5-4, got broken in the next game and had (at least) 2 more BP chances at 5-6 to get back on serve.

Disappointing to say the least. I really think he should get a real coach, but I don't see it happening anytime soon unforunately.

Also, I hope he doesn't end up missing out on a RG seeding with only Rome left now...

Yes to the coach...or at least a transition with the addition of a conventional coach to the team. Doesn't dad need to start working more with the younger sister soon anyway?

As far as Rome goes, it finishes only one week before Roland Garros, which seems too late to have an impact on seedings. I am not even sure if this week impacts seedings, but if it does there is a real threat now.

Nah it does, RG seeds are based on results the week after Rome.

He needs a Wimbledon seed IMO.

Yeah, I would have thought his dad would start working more with his sister now that she is playing more junior events, but I think Sara is being brought up through the National Academy in Brisbane currently.

I just wonder how effective his dad's coaching and training methods are at this point, since some of the same problems and weaknesses in Bernard's game continue to still be there. Another thing I'm not liking is the several matches already this year where he's lost after having numerous chances to go up a break, close out a set, or had matchpoints. Really hope that stops...

I guess we'll see what Sombrerero loco has to say about the match later.

«I didn’t play the right tennis the way I needed to,» said Tomic. «But full credit to him (Stepanek), he played a really good match. The blue clay was a bit strange for movement, it was slippery.

"I'm feeling good on clay and now I have three or four days to get ready for Rome. Hopefully I can play well there and win a few matches."

Some schedule news:

Bernard has entered Eastbourne so he will play 2 grass warmups before Wimbledon.

More surprising is that he will play in Stuttgart on clay after Wimbledon according to the tournament's announcement from today.

May 13 - Rome
May 20 - Nice
May 27 - Roland Garros
June 11 - Halle
June 18 - Eastbourne
June 25 - Wimbledon
July 9 - Stuttgart

I didn't expect him to play a tournament between Wimbledon and the Olympics. He will have a played a lot of tournaments from April-July...

Well say what you will on his on-court attitude, still he's showing he wants to improve.

But we have to be realistic, he's never going to fix all his weaknesses, and really those weaknesses are not really weaknesses for the average tennis play but more for the elite level. You have to have some extra-ordinary skill to be good in most areas, which is why from the whole world only top 100 people are in top 100. It's not a simple fix from a training session, otherwise everybody could be elite tennis players, just watch Federer and go and train in your local club and play like him, well I'm sure most people try to do it but it's impossible. He just needs to improve what he already has, because he has shown that he does have the tools to beat top guys.

But anyway, good luck to him on his next tournaments.

Hewitt indicated he could combine with Bernard Tomic in the doubles Olympic Games.

Nice.. I wonder if they will try and play together at Wimbledon too? I saw that Ebden wrote on twitter that he was going to be playing doubles with Ryan Harrison at RG and Wimbledon.

he was awful against stepanek, he was trying to outslice stepanek which is not the best tactic against him...awful to say the least he was 4-1 up and also 0-40, 3 sps and he made 2 ues of that 3 points...awful, really bad performance =(
