Eastern grip is adapted to beginners, semi western is for topspin forehand and western is for claycourt specialists who use huge topspins.

Yes, i use an eastern grip too. It's great for hitting flat forehands, and it makes easier the transition to the net. I guess what he wanted to say is "it's the easiest for beginers".

I generally use eastern grip on my forehands although some of the time I'l switch to semi-western to mix it up a bit and put more topsin on the ball.

Capriati- I'm not sure. She hits flat so i guess she uses eastern or something between eastern and semi-western.

a few examples
Tim Henman -- Eastern forehand
Andre Agassi, Lindsay Davenport -- semi-western forehand
Tommy Haas, Conchita Martinez --- Western forehand
Players who are at the net a lot can benefit from a less extreme, traditional grip.
