Default What is he thinking???

There are 5 tournaments prior to the AU, and Gonzo isn't in any of them... so, basically, the very first tournament he will play in the begining of the 2007 season will be the AU.

Is there any sense in any of this? I mean, just fresh from his vacation and his off-season training and he goes into the AU not having played a single competition match.

i got this from El Mercurio (chilean newspaper), and it gooes like this:

Quote:

PS: This is the first thread I create and English is not my native language, so please, be patient.

i don't find this inusual at all , for most of the top 20 players, the year starts with the AO (or Kooyong) and most of the players who starts early (read adelaide/doha/chennai, auckland/sydney) didn't played 3 finals in a row like Gonzo did in the end of 2006.

(except for Davydenko, he is a Robot...)

¿it could be better to have some matches to make sure you'll be ok for the AO? sure! but IF he feels like he can do it without extra tournaments... good for him!! (but he's gonna get some critics if he doesn't pull that one off... )

-Note:- the calendar before the AO is just 2 weeks, 3 tournaments played in the SAME week 2/1/2006 and 2 of them played in the SAME week 9/1/2006, so is not like he is missing half of the year, just 2 weeks...

I second all you said Zine including the Davydenko comment

And to play no real tournament before the AO shouldn’t be a problem for Fernando since we should not forget that he made these 3 finals in a row right after a break of 5 weeks between the USO and Vienna.

I'm with DeuX.cl - what is he thinking????

I'll have to check the entry lists, but I think almost all the players are playing at least one tournament before the Oz Open.

This is just

This "strategy" of his of only playing now and again will work in the short-term...but not in long term. He'll never ever break the Top Five doing things like this...unless everyone above him completely falls apart. And considering some of the players above him that could happen. But that's not the way a player should want to get to the Top 5.

And Ricardo - if he's not rested from last year by now...something's wrong...

""chillax"" feña will be fine (besides i bet he is the only one of the Top Ten who lost on the first round of the AO last year and has zero points to defend this year... damn u Bogomolov!! )

I'm not concerned about Fernando (well I am but not in this case ) - I'm concerned about the game as a whole.

I can't say what I think. Cuz I'll go off on a rant. I'll leave it with this - not going to tournaments by all the guys pisses me off.

Give me a guy like Dale Junior who said after the last race this year: I can take it (the offseason) or leave it. I kind of enjoy this racing thing.

Hell will freeze over before a tennis player ever says anything like that.

i seriously doubt a Nascar-driver has the same physical exigence during the whole year of a Top Ten player, if he does, he should be on vacations.

Unfortunately shows you don't know anything about racing.

Well not arguing the point anymore.

I'll just leave it with that I'm very disappointed in Fernando right now.

And too bad Davydenko has no hair. Because I like his work ethic. I watched him a lot this summer, and I have nothing but respect for him. There's a guy that deserves to be in the Top 5.

Actually, he should be rested right about now, since he's training in Baires.

I really hope i'm wrong, but i can't see this as a good sign. If he thinks he can pull off a really good first week in the AU, that's cool. Let's hope that his three finals in a row wasnt a fluke. I'm hoping to see Gonzo at least in the Quarterfinals of the AU

I just checked the entry lists. Not only are all of the top players playing the week before the Oz Open (obviously - I've never heard of any one going into a Slam without having at least one tournament beforehand...at least not anyone that thinks they have a chance to go far), but most are playing the week before that (which makes me wonder what the hell Nico is thinking too not playing in a tournament before Auckland).

Amazing...

Whatever...not worth the effort to even wonder about it.

everybody has his own plans before the aussie open, like feña will not play a tournament, nico will play only auckland or rafa for example will play chennai and sydney, roger will play an exhibition....
