i started watching it way back in the 1890's. they where the days with horseless carriages n' all.
a crazy fact from the 19th century Wimbledon demands there players to wear all white uniforms that makes them look like serial murders, i 'm glad they moved on with the times....................wait a minute...!!

That was me!!! ...well, perhaps not the 'better class of schools', just a common or garden grammar, and we (unfortunately) couldn't boast a Miss Brodie. My, oh my, those were the days......John Newcombe (we all swooned)...............

Can't believe I forgot about Nastase! Now that was a fiery guy
But you know, I still would have liked to have experienced the drama of McEnroe/Borg live. I do so love to watch a good fight.
And yes, I'm fortunate to have seen Edberg. BEAUTIFUL touch that man had. Absolutely beautiful.

Yes, "Grammar" I include among the better class of schools, speaking as an 11 plus failure. But then my sister could only take Cambridge Grammar School for Girls for a few weeks before pulling her rip cord.
I just saw Newk in one of the corridors at the Aussie Open. He's still looking good, no way looking in his 60's.
Talking of handsome dudes, is Roscoe still in prison? Contrast Tanner's on court manners with Roddick's ... similar players with similar results ... we can only hope Andy's post tennis career is also the opposite of Roscoe's.

First match was when I was 6 yrs old. 1995 Wimbledon Final Graf VS Sanchez Vicario.
Didn't watch tennis until 1999 RG Final Agassi VS Medvedev. After that, I watched regularly

He probably is still in there... it was a two-year sentence, issued last year.

Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
2000's
My earliest memories of tennis were watching Guga though in the french open (when he won it, not sure if it was 97 or 2000, o even 2001 lol) When I was on holiday in spain. It was great, even when I wasn't a fan I loved the french open and clay I also really enjoyed watching Safin
I then became a serious fan when I saw Coria-Agassi in the french open, where I would watch regular tournaments (rather than 1-2 a year).

In the 90ies
I used to watch Agassi and Sampras in the news but I became a tennis fan after Guga in RG for the first time

Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
1986... I remember myself as a 7 year old playing tennis with a nephew after Boris Becker won Wimbledon. And of course we both saw ourselves as the new Becker!
(but I also imagined myself as the successor of Enzo Scifo that day --> Belgium ended that weekend 4th at the World Cup Soccer in 1986... those were the days )
