Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
Sometime during the 90ies when Agassi and Sampras were the big names. I only watched the finals back then, a few of them. However, I first became a fan of a player in 2001 when Federer became a top 10.

1970s - got to see the "golden age" of tennis at the height of its popularity. Chrissie, Martina, Borg, McEnroe, Connors.

mid 80s, with the ascent of Boban Zivojinovic (and the locally famous 1985 aussie open QF 5-setter vs McEnroe
and then with the becker - edberg rivarly (still my favorite), I was hooked.

30-something man: Yeah, so now you have to learn to play tennis.

20-something girl: Then we can be corporate hos and tennis pros -- duh.

Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
2000s -- 2003 I started getting into Wimbledon and the US Open and really started my tennis craze in the Masters Cup that year, though I had watched tennis once in a while before (Sampras-Agassi in the 2002 US Open stands out).

The quality of my life does not rest solely on who wins these matches. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that I can live quite happily after a player I like chokes, mugs, bashes, or otherwise succumbs to a loss.

Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
My first ever tennis match I watched was Boris Becker's match against Miles MacLagan in first round of 1999 Wimbledon. At the time I was wondering who Becker was and why the crowd wanted him to win in that 5 set match. Anyways I find out it was his final run into Wimbledon and that was he a former champ. Actually, 1999 Wimbledon was my first ever event I watched. I started watching tennis there during the summer of 99.

Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
Watched my first tennis match in 2007; the final on Wimbledon ('Twas a wonderful British summer day ). My first full match was Gasquet/Murray Wimbledon 2008, started watching all the GS in 2009 and started following the full tour in 2011 ( ).
So yeah, basically the noughties.
