From the Masters website

Rios and Bruguera Could Meet for First Time on Clay Former World No.1 Marcelo Rios could go head to head with two-time French Open champion Sergi Bruguera for the first time on clay when they compete in the Seat Champions Cup in Barcelona later this month.

Rios, who dominated the BlackRock Tour of Champions with an impressive six titles during the 2006 season, has won two of their three previous meetings, but all were on hard courts. The event in Barcelona will take place 24-27 April, and will be the first of the year for Bruguera, who won seven titles during 2007, finishing the year at the top of the South African Airways rankings.

Bruguera and Rios will also have to contend with the challenge of the 2002 French Open Champion Albert Costa, who will be making his debut on the BlackRock Tour of Champions. Costa retired from the professional tour two years ago, and he will be desperate to prove that he has not lost the clay court prowess that won him the title at Roland Garros.

Spaniards Bruguera and Costa will enjoy the advantage of being on home soil in Barcelona; something which Bruguera admits helped him to win his second consecutive title there last year.

"For all Spanish players it means a lot to play in Barcelona. We all watched the tournament when we were kids so to win here is very nice," he said.

Last year, Bruguera defeated the 1992 Olympic silver medallist Jordi Arrese in the final, and one year earlier he overcame Carlos Costa.

The hard hitting trio of Bruguera, Rios and Albert Costa will be joined on the clay courts at the Real Club de tennis in Barcelona by 1991 Wimbledon Champion Michael Stich and the Swedish pair of Magnus Larsson and Magnus Gustafsson.

After Barcelona, the BlackRock Tour of Champions will move onto the Foro Italico in Rome over the weekend of the 10th and 11th May, and then the BlackRock Tennis Classic at the Rothenbaum Club in Hamburg, 14-18 May.

a 'machine translated' version.

Marcelo Ríos: "Before there were more names and a more even" level

In an interview granted to the Spanish press, "Chinese" analyzed the circuit, it criticized Rafael Nadal and it shot he made Chile: "If they want to shit, they will shit."

Ríos is finalist in Barcelona after lesion of Bruguera

Relaxed and inside the atmosphere of companionship that surrounds the Tour of Veteran, the Chilean Marcelo Ríos granted an extensive interview to the newspaper Spanish Sport World during his participation in the Champions Cup of Barcelona, although like it was of being expected, once again he went faithful to his polemic style and it sent some messages in diverse addresses.

"Chinese" spoke mainly in the note of its trajectory like professional tennis player and of its beginnings in this work, that that as he admitted it was "as throwing me to a voyage that he didn't taste like what went. In Chile there were not elite sportsmen. I was never gone by the head that could be number one of the world."

Regarding the present time of the circuit of the ATP, the "Left-handed of Vitacura" said that "today in day the tennis is more physical and of more power. Federer plays very easy, but I see it completely different", point where it threw the first of its "shots."

"In the tournaments of my time there were people with name, Becker, Chang, Agassi, Sampras, Stich... it was impossible that one didn't play you. Today there are several types that I don't say that they are bad, but it is the 15 of the world and they are not known or they don't get the attention. Before there were more names and a more even" level, Ríos sentenced.

This declarations didn't cause so much polemic in Spain, although when he/she was consulted by their opinion on the local idol, Rafael Nadal, the situation changed. It is "quite talented and I complete although their tennis is very forced and it can carry him lesions", although later he added that "what has made he, is spectacular."

Finally, "Chinese" once again took out its best repertoire to refer to Chile, especially to the cajolement means to who once again accuses for its distant attitude toward the means.

"Them (the press) regrettably they entered a lot at the beginning in my private life and it was the only way to stop it. If one opens a window so that somebody enters then it is very difficult to close it. The press is not as educated as here. In Chile if they want to shit they will shit", it concluded.
