Re: Thread for all NICOLAS KIEFER supporters
oh noooooooooooooo... Nicolas just lost to Youzhny in three sets... to be honest, I think we all knew it will be hard but it's always disappointing to see him losing...
I hope Nicolas will see a win soon or another surface ---> clay not good for his game.
and at least he didn't surrender when Youzhny was serving for the match, these are the positive things I will keep in mind for his next match.
Good luck next time, Nicolas!!!
damn, we were talking about the stress a Kiefer vs Schüttler match would bring and now we don't see anybody of these two in the next round

Re: Thread for all NICOLAS KIEFER supporters
I agree, for watching0 matches clay is a good surface, mostly because of the much longer points... but for me, supporting Kiefer, Schüttler, Haas, Hewitt and all the guys, claycourt is, well, sometimes frustrating

Re: Thread for all NICOLAS KIEFER supporters
So maybe Kiwi is a seeded player in Roland Garros. That could help him.
But hopefully he will play also the second week of the grass-season and maybe after Wimbledon in Newport, because L.A. is only two weeks after Wimbledon this year, so he could come one week earlier to play Newport.

Re: Thread for all NICOLAS KIEFER supporters
KIEFER wins against Stepanek 7-6[4] 6-3
I'm really very happy for Kiwi now to finally get another needed win on clay now. He played quite well against Youzhny in Hamburg, but now he won a match!
He can't win against good claycourters, but it was a really very solid job beating Stepanek whose record on clay is at least very respectable!
too bad TV tuned out at the beginning of the 2nd set and also a bad fact of Kiwi's game was that he could earn a lot of break points opportunities, but he didn't convert them well. Only 4/17 well, anyway, a win is a win now!
looking at the stats, Kiwi served quite well, 80% 1st winning percentages, 55% 1st serves in, 5 aces and 3 of them came in the most important moment... namely in the 1st set tiebreak!!!
furthermore, my impression was that Stepanek was not really good from the baseline, he did not have the shots to pressure Kiwi. If Nicolas could only reduce the numbers of unforced errors the results would have been much clearer, but I think the 2nd se was quite well, except the already mentioned weakness on break point conversions. Kiwi won the 2nd set with two breaks in front, well done!
Kiwi!!!
that was a big " COME ON!" from my side!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haas spielt gegen Chile beim World Team Cup

I'm glad at least they say that it is only a light and not a severe injury!
Kiefer already had some problems with his wrist in his career so far, but I hope he will be ready and fine for RG next week.
Hopefully it's only a precautionary measure or a reason to let Haas play in singles....

Re: Thread for all NICOLAS KIEFER supporters
I think his draw is ok, because he can win one match. But he is no. 33 in RG, so he could change his draw position easily, if a seeded player has to cancel RG.
The head-to-head says 0-0, but I think Kiefer lost to Ascione in straight sets in the qualifying of Paris (Indoor) 2003.

yes, that's right... Kiwi lost to Ascione 4-6 2-6
I hope he can win it, but Ascione remains of course dangerous although he didn't win that much in the past, but the same is true for Kiwi as well
I'll be content with one win and making the life hard for Federer would be enough then. More is not possible, I think he will meet Federer and everything but a clear (straight set loss) would be a BIG surprise.
Good luck, Kiwi I hope the wrist is okay!

Re: Thread for all NICOLAS KIEFER supporters
I also thought he had played Ascione. Glad to see that my mind wasn't just getting confused . Not happy about the 2nd round but it's important that he gets past the 1st round and that the wrist is ok.
He worked his ass off to get back to where he is. I don't want to see another injury take that away

Re: Thread for all NICOLAS KIEFER supporters
Thanks for the photos Neely
I don't like Nico's draw in RG. Tough first round and if he survives, Roger in the second
Well, let's hope he can win a match and give a good fight against Roger.
