Default Re: 2007 Tournaments?

here is the article (one of many) in spanish regarding robredo and davydenko in BsAs...although i don't think they will sign for it

http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story?id=484399

Default Re: Early Commitments

Well the fact that they're trying to get them doesn't mean they have commited.

Moya will most likely play, he's the defending champ and always plays there. Davydenko and Robredo will probably prefer the European HC season.

Default Changes in the ATP Buenos Aires

ATP Buenos Aires will be one of the tournaments that will test Round Robin.

The chosen format for Copa Telmex is:

Quote:
A 32-player round robin draw consisting of a 16-player “play-off” with the 8 winners joining 16 other players to make up the 8 groups of 3 players. Each player will then play two guaranteed matches in the round robin stage. The winner from each group will advance to the knockout round (quarterfinals), and then will play out the tournament per a traditional single-elimination format.
I'm not sure, but I think the tournament will start a Sunday.

Can anyone confirm this?

The tournament has been growing in attendance since its comeback in 2001, and the attendance of the Copa Petrobras challenger being held in Buenos Aires tells about the hunger of tennis in this part of the world right now. And adding a day (especially a Sunday) surely means a big increase in the attendance of the 2007 edition.

Quote:
ATP Buenos Aires attendance:
2001 48.348
2002 35.569 (rain)
2003 50.399
2004 59.520
2005 57.999 (rain)
2006 64.245
Another change for this year tournament is the 10% increase in the Prize Money (from US$425,000 to US$ 465.000).

This is from Adelaide Official site:

"In a move that benefits players, spectators, sponsors and the media, the Next Generation Adelaide International will stage a 32-player hybrid format round-robin over eight days, with the tournament commencing one day earlier – Sunday 31 December – and running until Sunday 7 January."

Buenos Aires will have the same Round Robin format. So I guess we will have 8 days of tennis, starting Sunday 18 February.

That will be the biggest crowd ever for a first round.

Very sensible move He prefers hard courts to clay, and is likely to gain more points on the US hardcourts than aganst all the clay court specialists in Bs As. Plus he needs to maximise his confidence and hard court experience before hopefully playing the quallies for the US Masters' Series events on hard in Miami and Indian Wells.
