Does anyone know for sure how Nalbandian is supposed to be pronounced? I've heard and seen so many variations that now I'm totally confused.
Has anyone heard David himself say his own last name?

Maybe I should have left this for one of the Argentines on this Board as I don't have the right "accent marks" on my keyboard here, but I've heard David say his last name and you put the accent on the last syllable. Hope that helps.

That's right Rose, the accent is in the last syllable...

Yeah, the accent is in the last syllable, at least in Spanish. That's why his name is written like this: "Nalbandián"....you see, the "tilde" is on the "a".

In English many people put the accent in the 2nd syllable, you know, in "...ban..."

I thought in Spanish the tilde "~" only is placed over the letter "n".

Good question but I'm still . So do you say "Nalban" quickly and then put the stress on "di-an"? And how do you pronounce each of the 3 a's in his surname?

"Nal" -> "Now" or "Nel"
"ban" -> "Baan" or "Ban(d)"
"an" -> "aan" or "un"

As you can tell, I don't speak a word of Spanish so please help.

this "Ñ" is not a tilde it's an additional letter we have in out alphabet. This ´ is the tilde, it indicates accentuation. David is written the same way in every language, but it's pronounced differently. In Spanish it would be something like this: dah-veed.

This is soooo hard to explain! Let me try:
In Spanish every vowel is pronounced exactly the same, no matter what letter is next to it:
a= ah
e=eh
i=e
o=oh
u=uh

It would be something like this: Nahl-bahn-dee-ahn You have to accentuate the last syllable.

Did I make any sense? Let me know, I can try this again!

LOL! I think he's used to listening to his name pronounced in the wrong way!
BTW, I'm really interested in knowing where you're from! How did you use to pronounce his name?
