Players who has played against most Number One
I think this is interesting
Agassi has played by far I think the most number of Number One Player from the ATP Tour....
Am I correct?, Can you find someone who has played against more Number One than Andre?
Andre has played against:
1. Jimmy Connors
2. John McEnroe
3. Ivan Lendl
4. Stefan Edberg
5. Mats Wilander
6. Boris Becker
7. Pete Sampras
8. Carlos Moya
9. Patrick Rafter
10. Yevgeny Kafelnikov
11. Marat Safin
12. Gustavo Kuerten
13. Marcelo Rios
14. Andy Roddick
15. Lleyton Hewitt
16. Roger Federer
17. Juan Carlos Ferrero
18. Thomas Muster
19. Jim Courier
Maybe one day if Rafael Nadal gets to be Number One (NOT), it will make it 20 Number Ones played...
Should someone make it more interesting by making a list of Who has played against MOST TOP TEN?????????

Re: Players who has played against most Number One
Well... ATP has had only 23 #1 players this far with only Nastase, Newcombe and Borg having retired 'a long time ago' (early 80s). Two former champions played early 90s (Connors, Mac) and the more recent ones started their trade around the millennium (Roddick, Federer, Ferrero). I found one guy whose career spanned those years and had matches against all of the abovementioned players plus one. Agassi himself.
Can you guess the player?
Wayne Ferreira.
That was my first search, I believe there might be some others too.
I also think that depending on the length of Federer's reign the next five years might see a new era of veterans 'competing' for this honour. They are the ones who are old enough to have met Lendl, Wilander in the mid 90s but continued their career long enough to have played against Nadal, Korolev, Berdych and other future stars.

Re: Players who has played against most Number One
Ferreira had a luck and played against Borg in Monte Carlo 1992, and defeated vet from Sweden 7-6 6-2 in the first round.

Counting them is meaningless
Because Agassi faced these 3 players when they were not at peak.
These 3 players were long-life players.
You should only counting playing against that-time NO.1.

Re: Players who has played against most Number One
In my view list is ok, but as Seneca says, not Agassi has played the most number of Number One Player (regardless of when they were at peak) but Ferreira - he has played against 21 Number One

Re: Players who has played against most Number One
Don't forget that Ferreira has also played Agassi and since Agassi cannot play himself (theoretically at least) so that is one more to add to Ferreira's tally.

Re: Players who has played against most Number One
Very interesting thread, I'm always fascinated by this cross-generation kind of stat. Ferreira playing both Borg and Fed is amazing... he has some stories to tell to his grand kids this guy...

Re: Players who has played against most Number One
This is great, I really wanted to get this one cleared
Wayne Ferreira, yes I remember lucky him playing Borg...
Thanks 21 it is....
So I guess he has 2 almost unbeatable record, the other being in the most consecutive grandslam played (i hate that for breaking Edberg record)...

Not exactly. Agassi played Lendl 6 times from 1987-1989 and Lendl was ranked #1 5 of the times they met.

Re: Players who has played against most Number One
I believe Agassi has scored victories over all of those No. 1 players (not necessarily when they were No. 1, mind you).
As far as Nadal, if Nadal ever gets to No. 1, then this won't be true...
