It's really weird, it's not possible they don't know it yet.
There is a new column of Tommy today on his website and he doesn't mention it at all either:

All I can say, is that I'm truly hoping and praying it's not true. I just can't imagine him playing for the USA. It's not even important it's USA, I wouldn't want it even if he wants to play for Serbia.
To me he was German, still is and will always be German as far as I'm concerned. I was really glad to hear he got US citizenship, but playing as American is really unnecessary and doesn't make any sense to me

In some sports players can't change the country they play for even if there has been a change in their citizenship. We in the U.S. have always kind of thought of Tommy as an American anyway, but I don't think at this stage in his career he would play for any country other than Germany.

Since I last posted I went and did a Google News search for news on Tommy. I couldn't find anything that said Tommy would be playing for the U.S. So I don't know what is going on

Well since my last post I went to the ATP website and sure enough following Tommy's name in the Rankings was (USA) I'm in shock to say the least But if the ATP site has him listed that way it must be true--I guess Not to say that he isn't warmly welcomed to have the letters USA after his name. We have always loved Tommy here But it is still a big shock to me And what a strange time to do it while he is injured and can't even play tennis

If that's really true I wouldn't know why to cheer for him in his next matches.

Perhaps we non-Germans can offer some clues On a serous note, is this really such a big deal? In my mind, the only thing where it really matters is DC and Olympics. For the rest, he's had like two homes since forever practically, amplified by the fact that he receives considerable crowd support in both countries. Still, I don't see him ever playing DC for the US, should he play it again. It's more than a flag thing, you've been a part of the team for years.

I don't have facebook account, but I've read somewhere that during his procedure for the US citizenship he ''erased'' his real name Thomas, so it's only Tommy instead.

On the other hand, I'm sure we all agree that we became Tommy fans because of his style of play, not because his image or anything else on that matter.Instead I would have only supported Djokovic,Tipsy,Troicki but that just is not going to happen
But,I would be deeply disappointed if he chooses to play for the USA because to me he's simply German!
No offense to any American but trust me I would feel just the same way as if I was American.

So,all these things aside, why do we need to keep on supporting him?
I'm sure because of Tommy's style of play, his character, his personality etc... and above all he's TOMMY HAAS!

Indeed. I really don;t care whether he's German or American. I can imagine for the germans in here it's a big loss for you, as he was your country. But for me it makes no difference, he must've had his own good reasons, to me he's the same player.

Let us all hope he'll be back on tour, nationality is least I care about with tommy

I suspect that the ATP's posting the US flag next to Haas' name was done by a wishful thinking American! :-) Seriously, someone on the staff probably heard about his getting US citizenship and may have mistakenly concluded that he gave up German citizenship. Until Tommy talks about it, I'm not going to put too much stock in it. But as others said earlier, we would all welcome him. I don't agree that everyone here thinks of him as American--many respect that he's German, but we're happy to have him here as long as he wants to be. And he does get a lot of support wherever he plays in the US, but so do players like Federer and Nadal, who are adored.

OMG, I'm so fucking sick of all this debate over Tommy's nationality. GET OVER IT! He's German-American. Which means he's still German. He was born a German, he always will be German. Does it really matter what country he plays for, the one he was born in or the one he's lived in for two-thirds of his life and where he trained to become one of the best tennis players in the world? If all you really care about are the letters or the flag after his name then go jump on fucking Kohlschrieber's bandwagon. I, for one, will continue to support Hasi whether he's German, American, Chinese, Mexican, or Kenyan because the only thing that matters to me is the kind of person he is and the sheer brilliance he brings to the sport. And to the person who posted to Tommy on his website that he's disappointed in him and will find it hard to cheer for him as an American, who needs fans like you anyway?
