Young guns from Switzerland!
I thought, in a perspective of a future davis cup win , that it would be nice to have a list of the young swiss players (17-22 yrs-old) that might be once part of the swiss davis cup team!
Here are most of the upcoming players with their birth year (86-91) and ATP ranking (provided they have one):
guenat, 86, ATP 748 (+5)
bossel, 86, ATP 798 (-5)
sadecky, 87, ATP 642 (-1)
roshardt r., 88, ATP 568 (-1)
eichenberger, 88, ATP 753 (+22)
thomet, 88, ATP 1365 (-17)
marti, 88 ATP 792 (-6)
sessagesimi d., 89, ATP 852 (+519)
roshardt l., 90, ATP 1746 (-12)
muri, 90
ehrat, 91
Please say who you think has the most chance to be once a good player, enough to be in the swiss davis cup team!?!
You can also give me other names if you think of guys I should've put!
Thanks

Re: Young guns from Switzerland!
Have just watched a young Swiss guy (just 20) called Adrien Bossel come through 2 qualifying matches at Sheffield Futures, beat Konstantinos Kalaitzis (GBR) #1249 and Miles Armstrong (AUS) #718.
He is a left hander and I cant believe he's only got 1 ranking point, really enjoyed seeing him, probably not got enough power to make it at ATP level, but a good player to watch with a nice touch, pulled off a fantastic backhand lob at break point in the penultimate game of the match against Armstrong.
Doesnt answer your question about next Davis Cup star but enjoyed watching him anyway.
All the best!

yeah, I had thought of putting his name in the list but since he almost only played in Switzerland I didn't think he was really planning to become a professional tennis player. I saw him play a couple of times in the swiss interclub where he played sometimes great tennis and sometimes he just crumbled. His game is nice to watch indeed. He can do damage indoors with his serve and forehand. But for now he doesn't really look 20 but more 17-18. If he gets stronger he may become a good player.
Thanks for your post, I'll edit mine and put his name in the list!

Re: Young guns from Switzerland!
Sessagesimi won an Italy Futures event last week as a qualifier. Didn't drop a set during the tournament on the way to final where Massimo Dellacqua withdrew handing the final to Sessagesimi.

Re: Young guns from Switzerland!
I have finally updated the list (it'd been 1 year...). I took off kilchoffer who seems to have quit professional tennis (no more ATP points and ranking)and added ehrat who's been doing pretty well in U18 tournaments this year. I also took off porat who seems to have disappeared (no U18 matches this year). Compared to last year, most players have stabilized their ranking apart from robin roshardt who's finally got a better one and his little brother who got his 1st ATP point recently. It seems that thomet has lost a lot of points and his ranking has fallen down. On the contrary, bossel has improved quite a lot his ranking this year.

Re: Young guns from Switzerland!
Must have been two years ago when I saw Mathieu in Basel - and there he really did impress me - but never ever saw him again. So hopefully he can keep it up.

2012
So we now have a watch on their ranking at the moment.
Nr. 391 BOSSEL: After so-so future results, he played a very good Nottingham 2 tournament. (lost in Round 2 to Duckworth in final set tiebreak)
Nr. 478 EHRAT: Won a Future Tournament in Bulgaria in May.
Nr. 486: LAAKSONEN: 20 years old, not in the list above. He has a good chance to reach Top 200 in the next years.
Nr. 547 SADECKY: Played 3 Futures and 1 Challenger since April. 5-4.
Nr. 712 MARTI: Bad season so far, did not play since April. Injured?
Ehrat and Laaksonen are probably the best Swiss players under 25.

Re: Young guns from Switzerland!
I saw Laaksonen playing yesterday against Giraldo in Gstaad. He's got good potential, backhand he has to become better .....
Yann Marti had an injury. After the Qualy in Gstaad he has one time agains problems.
Alex Ritschard is becoming better and better.

Thanks for the infos.
Laaksonen had some good results and its ok to lose against Giraldo in two easy sets.
Bossel seems to have his mini-breakthrough this week in Binghampton.
