Federer, Roddick to headline Kooyong Classic
World number one Roger Federer and 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick are among the big names who will line up in January's Kooyong Classic in Melbourne.
The Kooyong Classic, which is a traditional warm-up tournament for the Australian Open, will also feature 2005 Australian Open winner Marat Safin, Tommy Haas and David Nalbandian.
Tournament Director Colin Stubbs said attracting the big names was easy.
"It's not a very difficult exercise anymore," he said.
"It used to be but we've actually got guys lining up, quite a few players are hoping that one or two of these players will fall over before the event so they can get a run, so it's a nice position to be in."
Stubbs said the Classic was becoming popular with top-ranked players looking to fine-tune their preparations.
"It's a preparation for the Australian Open but it's pretty serious stuff down here," he said.
"They're all very professional about the way they approach their sport and they're really just putting the finishing touches to their game."
The Kooyong Classic runs from January 10-13, ahead of the start of the Australian Open on January 15.
