Maybe she gave up on Andy. I think she was a Berdych fan too.

SI.com predicts the USA will win Davis Cup in 2007
The U.S. will win the Davis Cup. For all the Chicken Littles lamenting the state of American tennis, the U.S. has two of the world's top six players (James Blake and Andy Roddick), plus wonder twins Bob and Mike Bryan, the top-ranked doubles team. Short of Rafael Nadal's assuming Swiss citizenship, what's to prevent the U.S. from claiming the Cup for the first time since 1995?
Er, clay? LOL. But we can dream! Fingers crossed

I guess someone at SI overlooked the drawsheet and missed the likelihood that, should we survive the Czechs on clay and Switzerland-Spain at home, we will be traveling to Argentina for the semifinals where it is possible that the clay will be slower than Spain in 2004.

PRAGUE, Czech Republic
Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic announced his retirement from the national team Friday and will not play against the United States in next year's Davis Cup match.
Josef Nechutny, secretary general of the Czech tennis federation, confirmed the decision of Stepanek to retire.
Stepanek, ranked No. 19, is the country's second best player. The 28-year-old last played for the Czech Republic in 2004 against Paraguay.
The Czechs host 31-time champion United States in the first round on Feb 9-11 in the eastern city of Ostrava.
The Czech team, yet to be announced by captain Jaroslav Navratil, is expected to be led by No.13 Tomas Berdych.

I guess? But, Andy and James should surely beat whoever they put out as the #2 player and the Bryans will win, so yeah, should be good for the 1st round

OMG, USA actually has a very decent chance now.
Why did Thunder Lips decide to retire? He could have made a strong team with Berdych.

well Stepanek hasn't played for the Czech Republic since 2004 anyway, but I just read an article where the Czech Tennis Federation has said he quit because he "unequivocally confirmed that he is completely indifferent to playing for the Czech Republic and that he despises Czech tennis, his team-mates, officials and Czech tennis fans".
