Hey, I didn't know this. Robby apparently has an online web column with USA Today called "Three Sets" where fans ask him three questions. It's been going for a few weeks already. Here's this month's column.

Can't wait to play in clay for a change
Robby Ginepri, the No. 33 player in the ATP Tour's 2004 Championship race, will answer three reader questions about all things tennis every week. E-mail him a question at myquestion@usatoday.com (including the words THREE SETS in all caps in your subject line) and check back Wednesday to see his answers.

1ST SET

Hi Robby,

Did you watch the U.S. Davis Cup matches? And if you did, what did you think of their progress and improvement? Also, how are you preparing yourself for the clay season?

Thanks and best of luck in the upcoming tournaments!!!

Sveta V.

I was able to watch some of the Davis Cup on ESPN last week. I missed seeing all of it because I was playing in a special event in Houston at the River Oaks Country Club. Naturally, I was pleased that we were able to advance over Sweden and into the semifinals this September against Belarus. I knew the Swedes would be tough after their win over defending champion Australia (in Australia) this past February, not to mention their incredible Davis Cup history. But with Andy coming off his win in Key Biscayne and the Bryan Brothers playing well, I knew we would be tough to beat. It should be apparent how much Davis Cup means to all of us and to Patrick (McEnroe) based on the enthusiasm all the guys continue to show both on and off the court.

I am still in Houston getting ready to play in the U.S. Claycourt Championships this afternoon. As you may know, I have been injured the past two years during this period in the season and am definitely looking forward to competing on clay. Playing in River Oaks, where I made the semifinals, was a good way to get some matches on clay and prepare my game and mind for the weeks leading up to the French Open.

2ND SET

Hi Robby ... I saw you and a bunch of other tennis players at the Newport Tennis Hall of Fame and I noticed that you all seemed really close. Is it hard traveling constantly and how often do you see your family? Also how long have you known the guys on the on Tour and do you guys always get along? Thanks ... Ellie from Newport, R.I.

I do get along well with the other guys — and hopefully they with me! You see the same players, along with their coaches and trainers, at most tournaments, so it would be a difficult process if you didn't get along with them! However, I think we are fortunate to have a very good group of guys on tour, especially the young Americans.

It can be hard traveling all the time, but I have grown accustomed to life on the road. I do get to see my family when I go home and occasionally at some tournaments. My grandmother lives in Fort Lauderdale and my Dad and sister (Jenni) came down as well to see me during the recent event in Key Biscayne. My mom came up and saw me play in Memphis earlier this year.

As for the other guys on tour, I have known Andy (Roddick) since I was 12 and Mardy (Fish) since I was 15. The other guys I met soon after I turned pro (immediately after high school). It can be difficult to compete against your friends, but we all understand how it works. For the most part, we get along very well.

3RD SET

Hey Robby!

Which area of your game do you think you need to work on in order to move up to the next level and maybe break into the Top 20, collecting a Grand Slam on the way?!

Andre

The area of my game that I need to work on to continue to move up is my consistency. I practiced with Andre (Agassi) in Miami and he is so focused every time he plays and practices. I want to reach the point where every time I play my opponent feels uncomfortable.

As far as my strokes, I am continuing to try and make my forehand a more consistent weapon. I am also working on my volleys and serve so that I can come forward a little more. Other than that, I am constantly focusing on my fitness and strength so that I can give my best effort every week. I believe that I can reach my goals as long as I continue to improve and enjoy playing.

I am telling you guys, he's sooo talented. I just don't think anyone hears me. He makes some amazing plays he just has to put it all together. He is kinda like Hewitt except Ginepri's game is all over the place. Hewitt's game is very controlled.

I did just for the heck of it

and had I liked Ginepri, I think the reasons for liking him over Hewitt when they play similar games is pretty obvious

I think Ginepri has more power than Hewitt does. Robby needs a big shot, SOMETHING that he can rely on in order for him to dig out matches
