Default English Weekend Matches 9th-10th Sept

From now on I think it would be a good idea for anyone who posts a tip could maybe record their record, i.e 4 out 6 won (but thats subject to your preference).

West Ham to beat Aston Villa@2.10

There is naturally gonna be massive hype in the build up surrounding this game after West Ham pulled off considerably one of the biggest deals in football history with the arrival of Argentine international's Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez. Despite a great start to Martin O'Neills career at Villa, their team is still relatively poor, even though new signing Stilian Petrov will be an invaluable asset. In O'Neill's first game in charge they pulled off a major shocking in holding Arsenal to a draw, but was this such a surprise? Yes, Arsenal have been solid at home for the last several seasons, but this was at Highbury where play was condensed through the centre of the pitch, using speed to counter-attack opponents. The new Emirates stadium is still a foreign surface to the Gunners and it will take time for them to find their feet . Aston Villa then went on to beat Reading at home, but only after Reading losing Ibrahim Sonko at the heart of their defence on 33 mins, which ultimately led to the revival of Villa's fortunes. Home advantage was key to this win and played a huge advantage in their win against Newcastle which was more to do about confidence of a new era at Villa under changed management. West Ham meanwhile are solid at home and home advantage should prevail once again in this fixture. They have made a promising start to the season and have only lost to a Liverpool side chasing for honours.

Sunderland to beat Derby@2.75

With Sunderland flattering to decieve this season and seeming to be in all kinds of trouble, the club got a much needed boost with the iminent appointment of Roy Keane. Despite a relative lack of experience, his no-nosense approach will strike fear into players and get the results back on track needed in order to promote a promotion push. The signings of Dwight Yorke and David Connolly will guarentee goals which the Mackems have been lacking, whilst Miller will supply some much needed creatitiy. Derby meanwhile have lost two key players in playmaker Inigo Idiakez to Southampton and Tommy Smith to Watford. Derby have only won once in their opening five fixtures and fans may be in for a long season ahead.

Nottingham Forest to beat Yeovil@2.00

Colin Calderwood's side have come flying out of the blocks, having won five of their first 6 games, picking up a possible 16points from 18. Their last outing was a comphrehensive 4-0 victory over Chesterfield with strikers Neil Haris, Jack Lester and Grant Holt all amongst the action. Forest are finally working as a unit and in Paul Smith they have an excellent keeper who will inspire confidence in his defence and the rest of the team. Yeovil themselves will be no pushover and have started the season well and recently beat third place Port Vale at home to prove they are capable of giving anyone a match in the division. However, firepower should prove too strong and i cant see past Forest adding yet more points to their impressive tally.

Swindon to beat Wrexham@2.25

Is there anything stopping Denise Wise's men this season? They over exceeded expectations already by maintaining a 100% record as they lead League Two. With wins over Darlington, Chester and Hartlepool away from home this season it certainly proves that they can play just as well on the road as they can at the County Ground. New signing player/coach Paul Ince could well be set for his first appearance for his new club, whilst League Two player of month Christian Roberts and strike partner Lee Peacock certainly know where the goal is. Their partnership has been the route of their success this season and whilst the Racecourse Ground at Wrexham is no easy place to travel their form this season has been patchy and this was proved by their lacklusture display in the 1-1 draw with lowly placed Barnet. Wise's troops are full of confidence and fans and players alike are starting to believe.

Also would anyone be interested in a competition whereby you predict five goalscorers in the English Leagues to score, one from each division and including SPL and if you get it right you get £25 free cash to spend at Stan James? We are running a new competition soon and i think a lot of you on here like Rich, Dahli has a great chance of winning it! If no runner it simply builds up! What you guys say?

I have no idea what you mean with the goalscorers, but it definitely sounds interesting.

I think I will take the West Ham bet early as well. 2,10 sounds interesting, although (as detailed as I can follow it) O'Neill created at pretty decent team at Villa.

First bet of the weekend is for Fridays Match

Tranmere vs Bristol City

These two teams have both started the season relatively well, however, City lost 3 of their first 4 matches and have now had 2 wins on the bounce. Tranmere on the other hand have won their last 3 and havent dropped a point in 3 home games - scoring 6 conceding just 1. City are in turmoil. They have lost their most promising youngster on deadline day for 2million but have not managed to spend a penny of that in the hour or two that they had to get someone in! They currently have 3 players in prison - who obviously wont be playing - and one player on community service who actually scored the winner on the weekend. However, Brighton arent very good and I dont feel that Tranmere will give the convict something to celebrate this weekend!

Tranmere will be on a high having seen their first goal on the weekend scored by their keeper and the next two by a striker who seems to be hitting form. They have a goal threat from all over the pitch and look to have a solid defensive unit having let in just 2 goals in their first 6 league games. Adding to this Citys average away record so far this season with 1 win and 2 losses, it seems that the odds on Tranmere are too good to refuse.

Tranmere win @ 2.2 - 2units

What are your thoughts about the Pompey - Wigan game Rich?

I am interested to play Portsmouth, it seems they got a decent team now with the new investor.

I don't like the odds on Arsenal nor Chelsea. I don't think that Tottenham can pull of a stunt at Old Trafford.

W26/L40/V4 +41.29units

Premiership

Sheff Utd vs Blackburn

A bottom of the table clash! However, I doubt one of these teams will be down the bottom come the end of the season, while I think one will be. Sheff Utd started the season with an inspirational point against a distinctly average Liverpool. Since then however, they have been outclassed by two teams who have made disappointing starts to the season - Spurs and Fulham. They will need their home form to be very good if they have any chance of staying up.

I watched Blackburn play last week. I wasnt that impressed. However, I know they have quality and Chelsea were out to get revenge after last seasons loss away at Blackburn. However, if Blackburn are to near match last seasons position in the Premiership, these are games they HAVE to win. I feel it is one they will win. Probably to nil. Blackburn clean sheet is tempting considering Sheff Utds fire power is minimal IMO.

Blackburn win @ 2.6 - 1unit

Championship

Ipswich vs Southampton

This season Ipswich have been poor, they managed to get their first win on TV over an average QPR side, however, they are very inexperienced and will find it tough this year. Southampton are once again the draw specialists having drawn four of their 5matches and winning the other match. However, they are still unbeaten and I dont expect that to change against a poor Ipswich side. Not only are Ipswich poor, it seems that they will be handing debuts to a lot of players meaning they wont be used to playing with each other - hopefully opening more opportunities for the Southampton attackers, who have proven that they can put the ball in the back of the net only failing to score in one match where they hit the post. Ipswich look poor up front and hopefully the Southampton back line will shut them out. Im all for the away side!

Southampton win @ 2.73 - 1.5units

League 1

Chesterfield vs Rotherham

Rotherham started the season with -10 points. They could either lay down and die or get off their asses and try and make a miraculous escape from relegation. It looks like theyre trying. Theyve clawed it back to -3points in 6games and are inching closer to the teams above. They have a better away form than home form and will be looking to make up for a poor loss to Northampton last week. Chesterfield had one brilliant win this season, a 5-1 demolition of Millwall. However, this was a highlight in a pretty ordinary season. They lost 4-0 to Forest last weekend and apparently couldnt put away chances of which they had plenty.

However, for me the most important thing is the return of 20yr old striker Will Hoskins for Rotherham. He was sent off after scoring against Bradford and has scored 3goals in 5games so far. Their record with him stands at 3wins, 1draw, 1loss. Not too bad. I think he is key to the result tomorrow and wouldnt be surprised if he scores.

Rotherham win @ 3.72 - 1unit

League 2

Wrexham vs Swindon

Im going to keep on riding the Swindon money train until it stops. They have won all 6 of their league games this season. Its been pretty straight forward. 3 games at home, 3 wins. 3 games away, 3 wins. Cant argue with that! Wrexham have been having a good season too. Theyve come out of administration and havent lost this season either. However, a home draw to relegation tipped Barnet last weekend doesnt look to special in my books and I feel the strong Swindon side should beat them even without their home support and Jerel Ifil who was sent off last week in their away win against Chester. Adding to this, Paul Ince should make his debut.

There's just way too much value in Swindon!

Swindon win @ 2.58 - 1.5units

Shrewsbury vs Lincoln

Both teams have started brightly this season. However, Lincoln have been on fire away from home. They have won their first 3 games away from home. Not only that, but they have been scoring for fun. 14 goals in their first 6 league games as well as 3goals in their cup game. Shrewsbury are also playing well and beat Boston 5-0 at home a few weeks ago. However, last match out they suffered their first defeat of the season to Bristol Rovers and Im thinking confidence might be low. Lincoln look good to make it 4 away wins in a row and the overs looks brilliant considering both sides offensive records.

Lincoln win @ 3.04 - 1unit

Over 2.5goals @ 2.02 - 2units

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looking for a good away day tomorrow with 5 bets on away sides. 8units in play, so hopefully should be a good day!

Pompey - Wigan is very interesting. Pompey impressed me a hell of a lot against Boro in the 4-0 win. Their defence with David James in goal and Sol Campbell, Glen Johnson etc hasnt let in a goals in their first 3 matches while Kanu has been on fire up front. However, Wigan are a good side. They created a lot of chances against Reading although only converted one and it looks like Heskey is back to what he was before he turned crap. He didnt get over 50caps for England for nothing! They lost to Newcastle on the first day of the season but created a lot of chances. It seems that scoring will be their main problem this season. Chris Kirkland has apparently recovered from the midweek injury which is key for them.

Pompey should win this match, however, at odds of under evens its too low for me. Apart from Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool, Wigan won the most away mathes last season and who says thats going to change?

Arsenal arent the same team as the last few years and will take time to adjust to their new stadium as proven against Villa and Boro like to turn up against big teams e.g Chelsea! Also, they have Woodgate and Euell making his debut which is a big deal for Boro. Boro have a shocking record at Arsenal, however, with the new stadium maybe things can change?

Chelsea should win. Thats a no brainer. However, Hasselbaink is coming back to his old club and might be able to pick up a goal here. Bent will want to prove that hes better than Defoe having not been given a chance for England over the last week. At odds of 1.22 thats a stay well away for me!

Man Utd will beat Spurs. They have had very different starts to the season and I cant see that changing, especially at Old Trafford. The only thing that Spurs can be happy about is Rooney is still suspended. However, Ryan Giggs, Christiano Ronaldo and Louis Saha have all been on fire this season so I forsee it being an unhappy day for Spurs.

Default Re: English Weekend Matches 9th-10th Sept

Now I have to do my standard biased review of the Watford game

Bolton vs Watford

Two similar teams take each other on. Both have big players and are very physical. Nicolas Anelka (the incredible sulk) will make his debut this weekend while Tommy Smith returns for his second spell at Watford.

Stelios was injured for Greece in midweek which will be a massive blow for Bolton as he was their top scorer last season and I dont expect Anelka to start banging them in straight away, especially against our defence which has looked pretty solid so far this season. Kevin Davies was also injured and sent off in their last match so wont be playing.

I doubt this'll be a very interesting game. I can see it going either way but I feel Kevin Nolan will be key for them in the centre of midfield and that battle in midfield will be very interesting. I see us being much more effective with Ashley Young on the left and Tommy Smith on the right and hopefully they can start supplying more balls for our version of Kevin Davies (Darius Henderson) and I feel he has a good chance of opening his account tomorrow.

Recomended bet - Darius Henderson anytime scorer @ 4.5

GL

Adding to this. I feel we have a score to settle after being outbattled and outclassed by Bolton in the FA Cup last season. As well as this, we have scored in every game this season and could, and maybe should, have scored a lot more than 3 so far.

Recomended bet 2 - Bolton Clean Sheet? No @ 1.75

An awful day for me.

Swindon and Southampton throw away leads.

Watford hit the woodwork 3 times and lose to a penalty on the last kick of the game.

Feel just gutted now. Sorry if you tailed me.
