In Baton Rouge Fischer is doing great. He defeated Ben Becker 6-4, 7-6 and will next play Delic.

Martin is also in the doubles quarter finals with Oswald.

Keep up the great tennis Austrians.

It was a busy day for many Austrians.

Dresden, Ger: Andreas Haider-Mauerer L (AUT) L Rainer Schuettler (GER) 6-7, 1-6

Ostrava: March df Stakhovsky 3-6, 6-4, 6-1

Rijeke, Croatia: Oswald L Rochus 3-6, 4-6
Fischer df Gard (ROU) 7-6, 6-2
Eitzinger df Kuznetsov (USA) 7-6, 6-4
Peya df Decoud (ARG) 7-6, 6-3

That is a lot of 7-6 first sets if you ask me. :-)

Today I believe Simon Aspelin and Julian Knowle have definitely made it to the Olympics. I don't want to jinx them. By winning their match over Brunstrom/Soderling 7-5, 6-4 while the players close to them on the list for the Olympics lost, it should mean they are in.

Next they will play Granollers/Ventura.

Aspelin/Knowle L Tipsarevic/Troichi of Serbia 6-7, 7-6, 5-7. They saved two match points in the second set. They needed this match to reach the Quarter Finals. I think they both will improve in the rankings by getting this far.

There are no Austrians left in the FO.

Julian Knowle has had to withdraw from Kitz. The following site tells why I believe.
http://www.laola1.at/128+M54d1020c321.html
I would appreciate it if someone could translate it for me.

The day was great for Austria in its own Open. Koeller, Melzer, and Peya won in singles. Peya won when Coria had to retire with a should injury. Koeller beat Oswald of Austria in a tough match. Melzer defeated Horna 6-3, 6-1.

It says Knowle has withdrawn due to pulled stomach muscles (is that the English term?).

Thanks. I need to buy a German to English dictionary.

I think it also said he still is not sure if he is in the Olympics.
