THEY DID IT. Aspelin/Knowle are in the semi finals. They defeated Clement/Llorda 7-6(3), 7-6 (5). What a close match.

They will play Hanley/Ullyett next. Keep up the winning ways you can do it.

One more win and they can be the champs.

Aspelin/Knowle defeat Damm/Paes 6-4, 6-4

In the finals they will play Knowles/Nestor who beat them in the RR portion.

Here are quotes from Julian and Simon from the Master Cup site.

Looking ahead to the final, Knowle said: "They beat us in the round-robin and they are playing well, but it's our first time in the Masters so we have nothing to lose. It's been a great week no matter what happens in the final."

Aspelin said: "It feels great to finish off a long season with a great tournament. It's my first Masters Cup final so I rank this result extremely high. Both Julian and I thought we would have done better in the indoor season but having reached the semifinals in Paris and now the final here has made up for that"

I can not find any pictures of them from this week.

Oh well! They lost in the finals today. From there interviews it sounded like they were content to reach the finals and did not expect to win. I wish it had been closer.
Aspelin/Knowle lost Knowles/Nestor 2-6,3-6

They deserve paraise for reaching the finals. They have only been partners since April and did very well this year. They plan to continue playing together next year.

Today when I finally wass able to get my internet working I was shocked to learn about Julian Knowles illness. Since I am deaf I know how he must feel.

This is from Tennisweb.at and I hope the translation comes through. I am sorry this is so messed up. Why the English does not post, I am not sure. If you struggle you can get the gist of what was said. Sorry it is not better.
Masters Cup finalist Julian Knowle had for the season opener at Doha cancel. A participation in the Australian Open is uncertain.

A setback had Julian Knowle in the preparation for the new season outlet. The Vorarlberger complained for several days over the loss of his hearing on Friday was an investigation in a Vienna private clinic diagnosed an acute hearing loss.

Knowle even signed up via SMS at the APA. "Mir geht es den Umständen entsprechend gut. Ich hoffe, dass ich bis Melbourne wieder fit bin. Doha ist kein Thema mehr", so der 33-jährige US Open-Sieger, der sich zuvor in der Südstadt gemeinsam mit Martin Fischer, Andreas Haider-Maurer, Rainer Eitziner, Armin Sandbichler und Philipp Oswald auf die neue Saison vorbereitet hatte. "I am the circumstances well. I hope that I am fit again Melbourne. Südstadt-Trainer Jürgen Hager meinte im Gespräch mit tennisweb.at: "Die Erkrankung von Julian war ein echter Schock für uns. Ich hoffe, dass die Therapie gut anspricht und dass er nach Doha schon bald wieder spielen kann." South City coach Juergen Hager said in an interview with tennisweb.at: "The disease of Julian was a real shock for us. I hope that the therapy well and that he appeals to Doha soon be able to play again." Die Diagnose von Knowles Hörsturz verlief etwas kurios. The diagnosis of acute hearing loss Knowles was somewhat curious. "Julian ging ursprünglich nur wegen Armschmerzen zum Arzt, die Hörprobleme wollte er sich nur nebenbei anschauen lassen", erzählte Hager. "Julian was originally only because Armschmerzen to the doctor, hearing problems, he wanted only incidentally watch," said Hager. Österreichs Tennisfans wünschen gute Besserung. Julian has flown to Sidney and will play doubles with Simon Aspelin.

Also good news. In qualifying both Alex Peya in Chennai and Oliver Marach in Adeliade have won their first two qualifying matches. One more win for each and they will be in the main draw. Good luck to both.

In Chennai both Jurgen Melzer and Werner Eschauer made it into the second round. Eschauer dr Salva-Vidat 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-4. I thought he would win more easily.
After making it into the main draw Alex Peya lost to Garcia-Lopes 4-6, 4-6.

Jurgen will meet Xavier Malisse tomorrow. He will also be playing doubles with Peya.

Julian Knowle is lovely!

He had a blocked ear, like when you're in a plane. He had an IV drip for a while to try to fix it, and then had tinitis for a few days. The guy isn't having much luck! But he's so nice!! ^_^

I LOVE the second photo

The pictures are great. He does look very pale and I hope he tans up quickly. With his hearing problem it is going to be difficult playing tennis. You need to hear your opponent hit the ball.

Thanks for sharing.

Don't you lke his hair cut? I remember when he wore it long and much prefer it this way.
