Default Re: Tennis Austria

Julian Knowle has a management team now. Straka feels that he should remain with Silmon Aspelin as his partner which means he will not be playing with Jurgen in tournaments. But Jurgen wrote in his diary that he hopes to play in some tournaments with Julian. IMO maybe they will play smaller tournaments together. I like Simon, but J & J are such a good team and now that Jurgen is healthy it would be nice to see them together again.

This is from an interview on Sport1.at. I found it hard to understand. Remember it is a word for word translation.

For a marketing one needs a profile of the sportsman, and with a double player the partner belongs to there naturally. Simon is in addition to Julian a good type.”

Bryan brothers as model

As the Mike and Bob Bryan as twins a mark, leading in the world rank list, give, could it after Strakas conception also the dunkelhaarige Knowle and the hellhaarige Swede Aspelin be.

Straka thinks thereby quite internationally. “We brought Stanford as a double sponsor to the ATP, and types search again and again. But that is not natural large things, with the double is limited the possibilities.”

Straka counts still four, five years on Knowle

Straka still counts on a career continuation Knowles over the next four, five years, wants to take out some thereby still.

“Important becomes its that Julian and Simon together-remain, even if a Austrian partner for the marketing were good in the homeland.”

But also in such a way sees e/motion in Austria connecting factors. Straka: “I think there rather vienna lastig, but reliably something offers itself. also in the west for instance with Head”

Default Re: Tennis Austria

The news came out today that Julian Knowle and Simon Aspelin will play the BC-AC Tennis Trophy in Vienna. It was a major decision because there is a tournament in Stockholm at the same time and that is Simon Aspelin home event. They have agreed to play Stockholm next year.

This is a tranlation from Tennisweb.at;
Knowle plays in Vienna
The Vorarlberger and its Swedish partner Simon Aspelin decided for the BA-APPROX.-Trophy - and against Stockholm.

Good messages for the Viennese tennis fans: US the pair of open winners Julian Knowle/Simon Aspelin will break open of 6. until 14 October with the BA-APPROX.-Trophy in the Viennese town hall, endowed with 755,000 dollar - and not with the tournament in Stockholm (800,000 dollar), taking place at the same time. “Me it was a large request, with the Trophy to play”, avowed Knowle, “one could have raised also a coin, was so closely the decision.” One came to play this year into Vienna and in the next year into Stockholm.

Today in Mumbai Koubek df Capdeville 6-3, 6-2. Next he will play Bjorn Phau. Stefan has points to defend as he reached the semi-finals last year.

In Bangkok Eschauer L Tursunow 3-6, 6-3, 1-6

In Napoli Kollerer L Trujillo-Seler 4-6, 1-2

The draw for the World Group next year came out today. No luck for Austria. They will play the USA at home in Austria. In the last three times Austria has drawn a finalist from the year before. It will most likely be held on Clay.

I feel Austria has an excellent chance with Stefan playing so well and J & J a great doubles team that can givee the Bryans trouble. Lets hope a huge Austrian crowd shows up and supports the team.

2008 World Group draw
The draw for the 2008 World Group is as follows:

Russia (s) (c)

Well, I'm glad they're playing Vienna then, that's good
And I see no reason for them to split, I mean, they've won a Grand Slam together. Obviously something is working right!!
Jurgen probably wants to focus on his singles right now anyways...

I can't wait for them to be back in action!

Sorry if I made it sound like they should split. I did not mean that. It is just that I know Julian has played in some small tournaments that Aspelin did not play. If that happens I would like to see Julian and Jurgen together again. Both J & J played Memphis together last year and did great reaching finals in spite of both having food poisoning. I think Simon is playing in Europe at that time.

I am happy they pulled it out in the tiebreak.

Since I had to go out I did not know they had such a great opportunity in the second set. I want them to win the tournament.

Sad but they are not longer on the route for the title. Today they lost in the semis to the #3 seeded team of Fyrstenberg/Matkowski 6-7, 4-6, 8-10. The statics say Simon and Julian were the better team. The won more points 74 - 71 and did better with first serves. Normally they win MTB's. I guess they needed to get to Vienna for the BC-AC tournament. I want them to win it. Better luck to them in Austria.

I am sure reaching the semis here helped them improve in the rankings. Not sure if they can move up, but hopefully they will not go down.

I'm disappointed for them, but at the same time this was "la vraie finale" for me, I love Marcin & Mariusz!! So I hope they go on to win the title.
It looked to be a very good match though!!

Good luck in Vienna!
