Yeah, hopefully they'll be able to play YEC

Ah, yes - well it's up in the air, I probably won't go. I want to go at least once. I get to go to Montreal every year, each day - and that is great. Most of the players I like aren't famous so I am the only one watching them Doubles specialists, and Sugiyama, and the Chinese girls and so forth. But last year I was too shy, this year I just got a little less shy and asked for autographs and pictures with my favorite players =)

Yeah, Toronto next year because they were in Montreal this year =)

Thanks for picture & article

They play against (9) Dlouhy/Vizner who took out Paul & Kevin
I'm mad, I almost got my dream doubles final
But I hope that Julian & Simon avenge my guys and win their first Grand Slam

For many years I went to touraments and only watched the tennis. One time I got brave when I had a friend along and asked for an autograph. that is not hard. I have my picture taken with Jurgen at every match and have one with Julian. He has signed it. Actually I think the majority of the players are friendly. They are away from home and appreciate the support.

It will be so great if Julian and Simon can win. They will have to keep calm and hold serve to win. Good luck to them.

Do you ever go over to Toronto when the tennis is there? I have a cousin that lives in Toronto, but on the complete opposite side from the tennis. She tries to go a couple of days.

Thanks for telling me that. I did not know it.

Here is a article from Tennisweek.com. An interview of Julian Knowle by scoop. It is called a biofBiofile: The Julian Knowle Interview is long, but good.

Photo By Getty Images By Scoop Malinowski
09/08/2007

Immersed in inspired net play throughout this U.S. Open, Julian Knowle took a delirious dive into the doubles alley after completing the greatest Grand Slam splash of his career today.

Knowle and Sweden's Simon Aspelin joined forces earlier this year and came together today in a shared embrace to celebrate the first major championship of their careers. The 10th-seeded team of Aspelin and Knowle defeated ninth-seeded Lukas Dlouhy and Pavel Vizner, 7-5, 6-4, to capture the U.S. Open doubles title.
"[It is] a dream come true. I think it takes a couple of days even to realize what we achieved the last two weeks," Knowle said. "The pressure was getting pretty big the last couple of days because we knew we were playing really well and we had a big chance to win the whole thing. To make it happen is just great."

It is the fourth tournament title of the year for veteran duo, who have won championships on three different surfaces: clay (Poertschach and Bastad), grass (Halle) and hard court.

Dlouhy and Vizner saved two championship points with penetrating returns. With Aspelin serving at deuce, Knowle made the most noise of the match screaming "no!" in alerting Aspelin to allow Vizner's return to fly by long and present a third championship point. When Dlouhy's shot landed wide of the sideline, Knowle raised his arms in triumph, fell flat on his back and pumped his fists with joy before arising to embrace Aspelin.

It was a win well worth the wait. The 33-year-old Knowle was a 2004 Wimbledon finalist with Nenad Zimonjic; Aspelin, also 33, had never advanced beyond the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament. They came together earlier this year following an injury that sidelined Knowle's regular doubles partner, fellow Austrian Jurgen Melzer, and will now share the champions' check of $400,000.

"I was happy that Simon served for it. It looked pretty good at 40-15 and then Pavel [Vizner] came up with very good return so it was very difficult, but I'm really happy that we could manage to win," said Knowle.

A lanky lefthander who hits with two hands off both sides, Knowle plays the deuce side while the right-handed Aspelin plays the ad side. They used their expansive reaches and high-percentage play to edge eighth seeds Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram, 7-5, 7-6(4), before beating the top-seeded Bryan brothers, 7-5, 6-4, in the quarterfinals. Squeezing out a 7-6(2), 1-6, 6-3 victory over Julien Benneteau, Knowle's one-time doubles partner, and Nicolas Mahut to advance to the final against the Czech pair, who had beat Aspelin and Knowle in the French Open fourth round earlier this year.

Knowle was particularly effective on serve, winning 21 of the 28 points played on his serve in today's final. The day before he stepped on court for the most monumental match of his career, Knowle sat down with Scoop Malinowski for this Biofile interview.

Height/Weight: 6-foot-2, 158 pounds.

Born On: April 29, 1974 in Louterach, Austria.

Hobbies/Interests: "Well I'm a big soccer fan (AC Milan) and I like to ski."

Tennis Inspiration: "Well, when I was a kid my idol was [Stefan] Edberg and I loved watching him. But now it's — well, I'm picking here and there but it's not — I don't have those idols any more. Too old for it [smiles]."

Favorite Movie: "That's a tough question. Can't tell."

Favorite TV Shows: "America's Next Top Model [laughs]."

Musical Tastes: "Pretty much everything but U2 is my favorite band."

First Car: "VW."

Current Car: "Alfa. Alfa Romeo [black]."

Favorite Meal: "Pizza."

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: "Chocolate. Is this about tennis also? [laughs]."

First Tennis Memory: "That's Tarp (France), under 14 junior tournament, where I played with like 6,000 people, TVs and everything. Played finals, I lost to an American guy Brian Dunn. But that was huge. In juniors."

Pre-Match Feeling: "I don't tell [smiles]."

Greatest Sports Moment: "I would say Wimbledon finals in doubles in 2004."

Most Painful Moment: "There are a lot. But there was for sure one here when we lost to [Fernando] Gonzalez and [Nicolas] Massu 7-6 in the third. The French Open again, quarterfinals, Gonzalez/Massu 7-6 in the third."

Favorite Tournament: "Wimbledon."

Closest Friends In Tennis: "There are some. I would say Austrian players — Jurgen Melzer, Alex Peya. From other countries — it's the guys I'm playing with — Simon [Aspelin], Mario Ancic. A few guys."

Toughest Competitor: "The Bryans."

Funny Memory: "Well it's not so funny, I was practicing at the French Open, when I was still playing singles. I don't know if you've ever been there, you go up to the practice court, you go up the stairs. And downstairs the people eat outside. And I was practicing and I was little bit pissed off. And I throw the racquet and the racquet went a little bit too far and it went down where the people were sitting. So I was really scared to go down to pick up my racquet. So luckily it didn't hit anybody. (You didn't go to get it?) I had to go. My coach send me there. And it was Salvador Navarro — he's coaching Garcia Lopez now — he was there at the table. He was telling me some not so nice words [smiles]."

Embarrassing Memory: "That was pretty embarrassing [smiles]. The most embarrassing was when I played a kind of invitation tournament. And I was a junior, like 17 or 18. And it was in my hometown and I played against Michael Stich, he was Wimbledon champion a year before. The year before I played against Emilio Sanchez, the match of my life. And I played really well. And I come back a year after and I couldn't put a ball in the court. I think I served about 35 double faults. And it was 0 and 1 and the people were whistling and I wanted to leave the court right after the first set [laughs]. Then the changeover he told me, 'Take it easy, don't be so tight.' On the shake hands he tells me, 'Do you want to play another set?' [I was feeling]: Let me go, LET ME GO OFF THE COURT [laughs]."

Favorite Players To Watch: "Today, well, Federer. And I like also Haas to watch. I think he's great, great to watch."

Last Book Read: "I'm still working on that. How do you say it in English — it's about shares — stock market."

Last Vacation: "When I was 12-years-old, to Italy of course. My favorite country."

People Qualities Most Admired: "The most important is that they are honest. That's for me the most. I don't mind if they like me. Honesty. And you miss that a little bit on the Tour."

ile. If you want

Default Re: Tennis Austria

I watched the interview online, they looked kind of shy, you know!! Search for US Open interviews on AOL I think and you can find it.

Also, I did experimental calculations of the rankings come Monday.

1. Bob Bryan
1. Mike Bryan
3. Daniel Nestor
3. Mark Knowles
5. Nenad Zimonjic
6. Pavel Vizner 3610
7. Paul Hanley 3385
7. Kevin Ullyett 3385
9. Fabrice Santoro 3370
10. Julian Knowle 3355
11. Jonas Bjorkman 3255
12. Max Mirnyi 3125
13. Simon Aspelin 3030
14. Arnaud Clement 3000
15. Lukas Dlouhy 2975

But, of course, these may have errors in them, but they are more or less accurate.

So they both reach career highs, Julian is in the top 10 and Simon is at #13, Hopefully he can edge out Santoro and get into the top 10 before the year ends!!
It saddens me but Bjorkman/Mirnyi won't even be able to defend the 750 points from Masters Cup, so it may be close to a sure thing he can move ahead of them.

Let's go Simon & Julian !! Rest well before your next tournaments, enjoy the success

Default Re: Tennis Austria

Here is a translated version of an interview with Julian Knowle after his return to Austria
09.09.2007, 17:29 clock
Knowle counts on first

Julian Knowle found a perfect partner with Simon AspelinVienna - on Friday Julian Knowle with the US-Open double victory at the side fulfilled itself a childhood dream of Simon Aspelin (SWE).

In the discussion with the APA on Sunday in a Viennese cafe the 33-jährige Vorarlberger and glowing AC-Milan-fan, which by the way won the major title without impact loss, told about its emotions after the title, which now very realistic first participation of an Austrian become with double Masters in Shanghai and as he continues to plan now for 2008.

Question: As you few days ago after used match ball in the US-Open final are convenient on the back and double Grand Slam winners for the first time were, which were there the first emotions?

Julian Knowle: “It dropped simply very much pressure and it was a giant easement, without knowing directly, what we and/or I reached in the moment. Everyone does not dream as a child once to be and/or one win with a Grand Slam tournament thereby, one knows however as with difficulty it real is to come there and/or like few it really creates.”

Question: Do you have to actually divide the cup with double partner Simon Aspelin or do give yourselves it there to copies?

Knowle: “That was completely funny. When we were made the cup up to have held and the photos, the Simon asked so quietly: “Having we that to divide now?” and I said: “no notion”. No, we get a small version, us are dispatched.”

Question: Now sometimes they are called in a breath with Thomas's sample, because you are only the second adult, who for Austria a Grand Slam title got. Is this meaning also conscious to you?

Knowle: “I do not hear the comparison actually so gladly, because I am the Julian Knowle and which reached the Thomas's samples, am again completely different level. I fulfilled a dream for me. Which brings it with itself, is unbelievably beautiful and I enjoy it in full courses.”

Question: And all of this after an unpleasant yearly start, when you lost its standard partner Jürgen Melzer by an injury, or?

Knowle: “, Exactly. Jürgen and I began the year, were very good we to in the middle of April the number 7 in the Race. Then I had the crisis already briefly, because I had thought, we could the goal, Masters of the best eight teams in Shanghai achieve. And then it says to me that it must call off because of its wrist injury. Under the year a good partner to find, is actually nearly impossible. I was at this time only on damage delimitation out.”

Question: Is success also a late satisfaction for one not whole according to desire single career run?

Knowle: “Which does not please me that in the articles comes out again and again: failed single career. I was 86 in the world and that must one first once reach. I saw in the single my limit and me evenly to decide to have. I have known that in the single the large coup will not succeed to me probably, in the double I a certain Potenzial thought myself capable of.”

Question: How is the initial position now actual for Masters? Is the place how fixed in Shanghai?

Knowle: “A Grand Slam winner is fixed qualified, if he is not under the Top 8. The first 7 is plus a place for a Grand Slam winner. Perhaps Clement/Llodra won Wimbledon, rausfallen those from the Top 8 and we US open won. Then would participate the team that in the Ranking more highly stands. Very much, a great many cords would have to tear that we are not under the Top 8. We are now at place five, we should also before Clement/Llodra remain, even if we rausfallen from the Top 8.”

Question: In the further tournament plan did something change?

Knowle: “Like it for the moment out-looked, we will remain in Europe and in the week after the Davis Cup nothing play, then in resound to Metz and then depending upon: Unfortunately Vienna and Stockholm are. in the same week”

Question: Become you there therefore knobeln, because probably both tournament organizers would have the Grand Slam winner gladly?

Knowle: “There the coin will probably fall, where it goes. Naturally I would play willingly in Vienna and he understandably willingly in Stockholm.”

Question: For 2008 you have now certainly a mad initial position with Simon Aspelin. How does planning look now also regarding Olympia out?

Knowle: “That in the two weeks everything turned now completely, is no question. With the Jürgen is it definitely like that that it will concentrate on the single. Double will never have the value for it as for a pure double player. Thus it is rather improbable that I concern planning with Jürgen. Where I stand need I someone, itself also by hundred percent on the double concentrated.”

Question: How did their family react?

Knowle: “Those were pleased naturally very much. Also there my father lives in Miami and he was in the first two rounds. Before the final he asked me whether he is to come. I then said, rather remain where you am, because I do not have ever a match won, if someone later came to the tournament. And there I am very superstitious, we it then thereby left.”

Question: Also a Grand Slam winner can still improve, or?

Knowle:“There are many points, in which I can still improve. Principal purpose is safe to stabilize the impact. I won a Grand Slam tournament now, without losing also only once the impact. I have in the year always approx. 5 Matches, to minimize which we lose because of my impact, and which attempt I.”

Question: What are the strengths of the team Aspelin/Knowle?

Knowle: “It is reliably the Returnspiel, makes us very dangerously. Simon serves very constantly. We practice very much pressure out with the impact of the opponent.”

Question: Not only its victory, also the total situation in the Austrian tennis is very pleasing, or?

Knowle: “Which with the ladies is loose, is sensationally. There one must pull the hat before all. Particularly before Tamira and Sybille. Before Sybille have I extremely much respect, it everything very hard to compile had itself. There one sees coming as far one with work. Tamira is a supertalent and is still very much upward possible there, if one plays a Grand Slam round of the last sixteen with 16 twice. For as a country as Austria we should be than content more. Jürgen still stands around the 30. It will again fully attack next year. Werner played itself with 33 and Stefan so upward showed, to which it still is able.”
