Re: Support driven by looks?
Call me shallow but I went to see Maria Kirilenko at Wimbledon and it wasnt for her tennis ability! You are right better looking players will always be better followed. I guess thats why Federer, Roddick remain popular in mens game and the likes of Kirilenko, Sharapova, Hingis will be more popular in womens tennis.

Re: Support driven by looks?
It's true good looking tennis players have more fans than the not so good looking players.

Re: Support driven by looks?
Of course it will happen, girls are much more likely to support a player because of his looks. Its quite rare you find teeny bopping guys, its the same with popstars/movie stars/ celebs etc. Just something in their nature I guess.

If you're gonna stereotype girls like that, then is it fair to say guys would rather watch Kirilenko, Hantuchova, Ivanovic, Sharapova, Vaidisova, Dementieva, etc... rather than Clijsters or Justine or Amelie?

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.
Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?
ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Re: Support driven by looks?
usually I like players who seem nice to me and play great.Ok, Marat is the sexiest guy on tour and probably on earth, but he's also a great player and a nice & funny guy. And I found him even more sexy when he wins!!! I swear! When I watch his matches I'm more focused on the game than on Marat...(crossing the fingers to see the ball IN)
my other favourite players I found cute are Fernando G , Igor and Novak. but I like others without finding them sexy (Marcos, Misha, PHM...)...as it has been said before, true fans don't care about looks...

 Exactly!
I don't get the Sharapova hype at all though. Her figure is good (though a bit too skinny IMO) but her face is nothing special compared to a lot of other players; rather ordinary.
Personally, looks are not the reason why I support certain players. Of course it is a bonus if they are good looking, but I would never waste my time to watch a match just because the guys are cute.

It is fair to say, but it is alot less common. There is a bigger outbreak of teeny bopping females as opposed to males, and we all know it.
