In other articles I have read that he was the unanimous choice of the players.
These articles also said that at 16:30 the FFT will have a press conference to announce the captain and explain their choice. We will probably know more then.

A l'occasion d'une conférence de presse, ce vendredi après-midi à Roland-Garros, Arnaud Clément a été nommé nouveau capitaine de Coupe Davis de l'équipe de France.
Arnaud Clément, 34 ans, qui vient tout juste d'annoncer sa retraite sportive (lire l'article), est donc le successeur de Guy Forget. La nouvelle a été officialisée ce vendredi après-midi, après le bureau fédéral de la Fédération Française de tennis.
En présence de Patrice Hagelauer, le DTN, et de Jean-Pierre Dartevelle, vice-président délégué de la FFT en charge de la DTN et de la compétition nationale, Jean Gachassin, le président de la FFT, a d'abord pris la parole pour annoncer officiellement la nomination d'Arnaud Clément : "Arnaud sera donc à la tête de l'équipe de France pour la campagne 2013. Je suis très heureux. A l'unanimité, le bureau fédéral a accepté la proposition de la DTN. Arnaud est passionné et persévérant. Il véhicule des valeurs qui me touche beaucoup, moi qui vient d'un sport d'équipe."
Arnaud Clément a ensuite pris la parole, très ému. "C'est une immense fierté pour moi, d'avoir à la fois le soutien des joueurs et de la FFT. Cette nomination, c'est aussi une grande responsabilité. Le but que je me fixe, c'est que la France regagne la Coupe Davis. L'équipe en a le potentiel. Je vais avoir beaucoup de domaines à explorer. Le challenge m'excite énormément. Je n'ai pas encore étudié le manuel du capitaine idéal, mais vous pouvez être sûr d'une chose : mon seul but sera de prendre les meilleures décisions pour que la France remporte le Saladier d'argent."
Patrice Hagelauer a ensuite précisé qu'il y avait eu "beaucoup de candidats de grandes valeurs, mais que le choix final était quand même revenu aux joueurs". "Il y a eu un consensus auprès des joueurs autour d'Arnaud", a conclu Jean Gachassin.

Escude who has been put at the fed cup to learn and be the future DC captain must not be fully happy of the decision. I'm wondering who says no for him and it would be interesting to know who was for Pioline finally. The legitimity by the players is not easy. Let's see how he will feel as the Captain with big personnality like Gilles That group is not always doing all for the win.

How do you know some are not ok with it? People can change their minds, maybe at this point the ones against Arnaud became neutral towards him and that might have been enough for the decision. They announced it way earlier than they said, so why choose now if not everyone agrees? This is my reasoning behind it, cause all the articles before the announcement gave different information. I think it's interesting how much information we do not get as fans and probably will never know.
And they will have their reasons to ask 4 guys, since the team usually is 4 plus reserve. Maybe these 4 guys are the ones they expect to play the most in 2013.

Benneteau explains that they were not OK on one name, that's unanimity was not possible. It was about 6 weeks. It appears with last articles during RG that Grosjean and Escude was not elected by all the players, that some players were against them . So in the trio of fav Arno was the only one remaining.

Then Pioline has made campaign and according articles Gilles and Jo were seduced. It seems that decision was between those two names. FFT could have been the decider. That's why it would be interesting to know. I'm curious because it has been long and there were many candidates so legitimity is not easy.

For the 4 guys I think it's not enough I would like more. You can say it's the players who choose the captain when they are so few.
