Re: Deb, Nat, and Brian's Thread of Grammar Shame.
When I was about 7 and we used to have to write stories, I once wrote all over the page in capital letters: "I HATE WRITING WORKSHOP!!!"(it was called that then). |:
I was actually pretty good at English though and used to enjoy writing/analyzing poems and stories. But then I can be pretty inventive with words. (:

Re: Deb, Nat, and Brian's Thread of Grammar Shame.
The process of analysing the poems destroyed everything that might have been enjoyable about them in the first place! Ah well, English never was really my thing...
Edit: I have no idea how that hug ended up in there^^

Re: Deb, Nat, and Brian's Thread of Grammar Shame.
I have a question...
I figure this might be the place to ask.
"What is the appropriate usage of ..... in a sentence or paragraph?"
also
"when is it appropriate to start a sentence with a - ?"
I just realise i use these a lot and im not actually sure of their correct occurence.

.... is used when you're omitting something, like when you're quoting a source and you're not quoting the whole thing, but just parts of it. I don't think it's to be used any other way but I use it when I post on here because I type in streams of consciousness sometimes.
I don't think it's ever grammatically correct to start a sentence with the hyphen unless you're making a list or outline.
Having said this, Deb will probably come and correct me.

Re: Deb, Nat, and Brian's Thread of Grammar Shame.
n@'s quick grammar lesson:
'"You're" is a contraction meaning "you are."
"Your" is a pronoun meaning "belonging to you."
"They're" is a contraction meaning "they are,"
"their" is a pronoun meaning "belonging to them,"
"there" is an adjective describing a location that is away from "here."
contractions:
I see a lot of "was'nt" or "does'nt" around the boards, and, um, yeah THAT IS WRONG.
was not is "wasn't." The apostrophe takes the place of the "o." Just like in the tv show punk'd, where the apostrophe takes the place of the "e." get it? GET IT? d:
does not = doesn't
do not = don't
would not = wouldn't
will not = won't
etc.
[: this has been a lesson from n@. Enjoy the rest of your evening/morning/afternoon.
