I am a fan of Federer, Gasquet, Baghdatis, the long-deceased Safin, Youzhny, Nalbandian, Rochus, Tsonga, the sadly-departed Santoro, and good, hearty, competitive tennis matches. The quality of my life does not rest solely on who wins these matches. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that I can live quite happily after a player I like chokes, mugs, bashes, or otherwise succumbs to a loss.

I hate it when 2 French players have to face each other so early on 
But I think Richie has the potential to go further in this tournament, so I hope he deals with this match well, it's never easy facing your friend and countryman...

Gilles Simon ne s'embarrasse pas de complexes. Après un début de saison fracassant et une tournée estivale peu convaincante, il se délecte par avance de sa confrontation avec Richard Gasquet.
"On se connaît surper bien. Je pense être plus solide physiquement que lui, et lui défend bien", lancait-il dans L'Equipe mercredi. "Je sais qu'il me craint. On n'est pas comme ces joueurs qui ne sentent pas la balle. Richard et moi, on n'a pas de limites tennistiques; du coup, on subit de gros écarts de niveau, du meilleur au pire."
Cela a le mérite d'être clair. Gasquet dans son coin, interrogé sur son futur adversaire, avouait après sa victoire au premier tour que son match face à Simon sera crucial pour la suite. Non seulement c'est un Français explique le Biterrois (qui compte 7 victoires pour six défaites face aux Tricolores sur le circuit majeur), mais c'est un "excellent joueur". En cas de victoire, il pourrait "aller loin". "Loin", c'est-à-dire au 3e tour où un autre gaillard l'attendrait au tournant : Feliciano Lopez.
