When I was in RG, del Potro seemed to be suffering from a slight groin strain near to the end of his match with JCF - so I guess that was the reason. Oh - and well done Gastón today Hope you enjoyed it Choupi

GREAT WIN, GASTON!!!

He said he'd played better than he had for a long time!

I loved the part in the first set where Ferrero won a point after a nice rally and Gastón sent him a huge smile, appreciating that they were both taking part in a great match.

I was wondering when he would come out in a new outfit, and he chose the Chatrier like in the 2004 final. For luck?

I feel completely drained after all the adrenalin. Watching tennis is an exhausting occupation, especially if one cares so much about the outcome!

Happy for Gaston today but pissed off we didn't see the match on TV... they were too busy focusing on boring women's matches...

Now to take out Kolya!!!

Thumbs up Re: The Gaston I'm taking on all the worlds problems and my own Roland Garros Thread

I think he gains confidence after playing Juan. His form is not so good recently, now it's time to step up to beat tough players. Davydenko will never give up,I expect this will be a long match, good luck!

Small steps are being taken at the moment, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Gaston should feel very confident of playing the PMK on clay, but matches aren't won on paper.

Yes, I did have fun, yes, that match was great to watch and yes, Gaston really was impressive.

I saw the match entirely. And I have to confess I was pretty nervous, as I really didn't wanna live one of those matches that Gaston just throws away. Both players were former winners, and both were going through some period of doubts as to the efficiency of their game lately. That could be seen from the very beginning of the match. Both wanted to make good shots to show the other one that he was wanting that match, badly. The 1st one to be broken was Gaston. But he kept cool, went on playing his game, and finally broke back, taking the 1st set. The 2nd set had the same scheme. Except that Gaston had double break against him. Ferrero seemed to have been touched in his pride, to have lost the 1st set whereas he had been leading. He really was aggressive, and it worked. Gaston made some errors at wrong times and ended up with that double break. That's where I started to think that things might get twisted in Gaston's mind. But he incredibly fought when Ferrero was serving for the set, and managed to break back. Then, he won his serve pretty easily and that just gave him enough confidence to break Ferrero back a 2nd time. He finally took the 2nd set, seizing the right opportunity. As you can imagine, Ferrero was getting frustrated by those 2 sets lost, after he had been leading. But it didn't show in his game. The 3rd set has been epic. Neither of them wanting to give up. Tiebreak was tense. But Gaston played smart and efficient. He took that match in 3. He really impressed me. Not because he played his best tennis. But because he really hadn't played like this for long. And especially, he hadn't kept focused in a tight match for very long. So congrats Gaston and thanks for the show.
