Default Re: Judio Confirmed That Nico Will Be Seeded At Roland Garros! Whooo hoo!

Well, of course, even seeded a player can get a crappy draw but the odds are a little better when seeded. Having said that, Nico will probably draw Marat or Gasquet now...

Okay - sorry Fergie but I like being able to change the title so I'm switching back to this RG thread!

From the Roland Garros site:

"In a first for the tournament, the draw for this year's French Open will partly be done by computer. Don't miss it - live on Friday from 11:30 CET, on the official site."

Default Re: Draw Comes Out For RG-11:30 Friday France Time-Do We Dare Hope For A Good Draw? LOL!!

This draw sounds really cool - sounds as if we can see the draw as it unfolds on the computer. Will be interesting tomorrow to see how it works.

Rest of the article:

Fate, and of course the draw, can often play a major part in deciding who wins French Open. This Friday at 11:30 CET, all eyes will be at the Tenniseum, as the Roland Garros tennis museum is called, when the draw will take place. Favourites and outsiders alike will all be dying to know who they will be facing in the first round - and the big names of course will already be looking a little further.

The draw has traditionally been done by hand, but this year, in a first for the tournament, it will partly be done on computer. This will reduce the time required to around 40 minutes, making the draw more dynamic, exciting and fan-friendly, particularly for the tennis lovers following it live around the world on www.rolandgarros.com.

The women's singles will be drawn first, with unseeded players entered electronically into the system, before the 32 seeds are drawn by hand. Names to look out for include Amélie Mauresmo (number 1 seed), Kim Clijsters (2) and last year's winner Justine Henin-Hardenne (5). The seeds have been decided according to the world rankings as of 21 May.

The men's draw will be made in the same way straight afterwards, with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal seeded one and two respectively. All 32 seeded players will be looking to avoid some of the big names lurking outside the 32 in the first round - the likes of Marat Safin, Richard Gasquet and clay-court specialists Nicolas Almagro and Juan Ignacio Chela would be more than a handful for any opponent at any stage. Depending on the draw, they could well provide some first round fireworks.

I got up early to follow the draw.

Don't know if anyone else is up this early but that is totally cool.

The women's draw just ended.

Totally cool!

Well it was cool when I was able to follow it - I got out for a minute and couldn't get back in.

But the big news - Nico got Xavier Malisse in the first round!

Not great, but doable!

VAMOS NICO!!!

I'm in a positive mood right now - NICO can beat Roger.

But yes, first things first - NICO definitely can beat Malisse!!!

Finally! Nico has the chance to get past that first round! I think he will make it to an interesting 3rd round vs Federer.

Vamos Nico!!

Gonzo got Safin first round if he gets past him the draw is pretty good though, I wouldn't be surprised if Feña makes it to quarters vs Nadal.

Paul got Greg, could go for anyone, but then he would have to face an in-form Ancic.

Best wishes for the Chilean team.

Not too bad a draw for Nico considering what it could have been. I was thinking the same thing as Chileno and Nicofan, Nico could really give Roger some trouble if he makes it to the 3rd round. This is clay and it sounds like Roger may be getting a little concerned about winning the FO and maybe that will mess with his mind and he'll be like almost every other player in the ATP (Sorry Fergie and Rogifan-if Nico has to play Roger, I will not be wanting him to get his grand slam yet next year perhaps)

I really believe that Nico can give Roger a hard time. If Fed plays like he did against Rafa in Rome, of course not. But if Fed plays like he did against Almagro in Rome, Nico has a huge opportunity. And Fed isn't going to be happy looking at the draw and seeing Nico's name.

Nico just has to believe - that's what Rafa does - he believes he can win against Roger - and does.

But again...first Malisse. The third round is a moot point if he can't win the first or second rounds.

Guys, guys, guys! You're doing it again!!!!!!! thinking about Federer Nico has to beat first Malisse!!! remember that!! we've to take one match at a time. I think that Nico has a doable first round but you never know what could happen so first

BUENA SUERTE NICO AGAINST MALISSE!!!!! ... Vamoooos!!! You can do it!!!!

After that match ends we'll talk about the second round ... I'm sure that Nico will do a better RG in comparison to the last year ...
