Richard Gasquet also safely progressed through to the next round with a 7-5, 6-3 win against Daniele Bracciali of Italy. Gasquet, who lifted his first ever ATP title on the centre court at Nottingham last year, was in buoyant mood after clinching his quarter-final spot to set up tomorrow's match against fellow Frenchman and world no. 46 Gilles Simon.

He said: "I am very happy to get through because Bracciali is a great player. It's important to be in the quarter-final. It was really difficult today but I served well and played better than yesterday. I played a solid match. Yes, of course I like Nottingham, it's a great tournament for me and I really enjoy playing on the courts.”
