As far as I know only if you want a visa which you don't need for a layover, but they could have changed the rules

I had an eyescan in LA.  And I think they took both index finger prints, not thumbs.

Yup, me too - 2 index finger prints and an eye scan. Happens every time to me - not sure about layovers though.. |
