CHENNAI JAN. 4. With nearly half of the 25 direct entries being Spaniards, one really cannot be faulted in believing that an Armada from the land of the Costa del Sol and Malaga wine is laying siege at the Nungambakkan Tennis Stadium here this week.
The fact, however, remains that a Spaniard has not triumphed in the eight editions — inaugural in Delhi and the rest in Chennai — of what is the only ATP Series event in South Asia.
Tommy Robredo's semifinal entry in 2001 is the farthest that they have gone. Currently No. 21 in the World, Robredo is back, as is countryman and World No. 7, the inimitable Carlos Moya
