Default Simon defeats Gabashvili 6.4 6.2

Gilles Simon is carrying on where he left off last week in Valencia. He showed that his wild card into Monte Carlo was entirely justified with this win over this quickly improving qualifier. Gilles had victories over both Berdych and Massu at the Australian Open and if he carries on in this fashion he will soon be ranked in the top 50. He has been a favourite of mine for some time and his elegant game and composed demeanour are already earning him many new fans. Allez Gilles!

Berdych should have won that match! ok 6/7 7/6.... then Berdych breaks early in the 3rd set - it was Berdych/Simon* 3/1 ... and see what happened!
