well, my biggest fear didn't come true (Serbia and Germany playing against each other in DC), but I think though, that it could have been better. Thailand can be dangerous in case that Paradorn finds his form again, and Serbia did get a very hard draw, in case Roger plays, which is possible, as it is for Switzerland a home tie.

If your country chooses clay, probably Paradorn won't be a problem. Germany and Brazil had luck in this draw. But I can't say the same to Serbia, of course. I guess they'll lose even if Federer doesn't play.

If Federer doesn't play, Switzerland will be pretty much a one-man team (Wawrinka), while Serbia has a bigger depth and players for almost every surface. If Australia managed to defeat Switzerland without any singles player in the top 100, I don't see why Serbia shouldn't do it.

Plus if they pick clay, we get to use Pashanski our claycourt specialist Not to mention last year before Wimbledon everyone as calling Nole a claycourt specialist just because he won San Remo Serbia's players (excpet Pashanski) can play on all surfaces. If Federer doesn't play.. bring it on.

I know, it was just a prediction.

Haas and Kiefer are not much better than Paradorn on clay.

I think they are. Paradorn had a 2-7 record on clay in 2005, 2-6 in 2004 and 2003, 2-4 in 2002. His opponents weren't big players. His matches on this surface show that he doesn't adapt well to it.
Haas results are not that bad on clay. He won Houston, was a finalist in Rome and had other good isolated results.
Kiefer had a good RG last year. He can play well on clay. Not the best surface for him, but the one that makes matches easier against Thailand.

Of course Tommy and Nicolas would be the favorites against Paradorn on fast surfaces, but it would be easier on clay. It would avoid Srichaphan to be dangerous and surprise them. It's just what I think.

I agree with you. It's just that last time when Germany host a DC tie at home on clay, because that's a weak surface for her opponent, it's disastrous.

Wtf! Is this some new DC rule? Sweden away at country X on clay. Preferably in South America. The ITF is getting back at us because we have handed in protests at least once every year the last three years.
Good bye World Group!

very bad draw for the netherlands, but if martin verkerk is fit and we can play on gravel there is a very little chance to win it

Come on, Brazil doesn't exactly have a dream-team.

Should be a very close tie.
