That was close against Montanes! Zut! But 63rd in rankings, that's a good number...but for example 33 is my lucky number...what do you think, Nico?

I remember the new joke about Federer, featuring Montanes. When Fed lost to Karlovic, someone wrote here on MTF: "What will be next? Losing to Montanes in US Open 1st round?"

Yes, Irina, I checked the blog Maybe because there weren't any pics.

Nico!!!
(And now allez Seb )

Next is Querrey, and I think he's pretty beatable, isn't he?
No pictures so far (and I believe Nico should be wearing some new outfit too), but the FFT have heard my prayers and they put online Nico's interview: http://www.fft.fr/usopen/2008/?id=3941.
There is nothing new actually, but it's anyway SUCH a pleasure to listen to Nico's happy voice He says Andujar played a final of a Challenger in Spain so he arrived to New York only on Monday and surely was a bit tired. Though anyway in the beginning it was a bit hard against him. Nicolas is happy to win and he is pretty satisfied with his draw. Also he claims he's gained a lot of confidence recently - something that I'm especially glad to hear

EDIT: ok, to let Maria begin her morning with something especially pleasant here is one photo from the match. Well, Nicolas looks nice in classy outfits, too, but why can't he put on for his matches something like that Kitz' "delicious" T-shirt? Then he'd surely beat any rival

Nico So happy for him to make the 2nd round. I'm glad he's confident because I've been very confident in him just lately after all those good results in the challengers!

Good luck next round Nicolas

Yes, it's no shame for Nico losing to 1,98 m Querrey! Anyways, I'd love to see them shaking hands at the net, that had to be so CUTE

Tough yes, but as for long... His matches rarely last less than 2 hours

His three last losses to Montanes, Querrey and Serra were all close matches, where one single ball could turn things around. On one hand, yeah, it's good to see what a fighter he is, never gives up, fights till the very last ball, plays not worse at all than those guys etc. But on the other hand, such close losses are too frustrating, if I followed it on a scoreboard it takes me then a day to recover

Thanks

BTW, I want officially announce that I HATE the way Nico picks tournaments to play!!! Basel, huh

Cyril

This Romanian tournament confused me putting Nico's best ranking as 63 and his current ranking as 65 Anyway...
Nicolas

If you were a Frenchie and could choose from Lyon, SPb and Basel, where would you go? In addition, Basel always has the strongest field, he is the last direct entry at the moment, and he is the only Frenchman to play there this year

BTW, it's not just #60 in the rankings, he is also between Hewitt and Moya, two former #1! And he is French #9, the best national ranking too
