How good that Yayo doesn't have to play a match today because he wouldn't be a favourite, especially minding that most likely he's still asleep and it's 12.50 here.

Massa won in straight sets and now he plays Lapentti in the semis. If he can serve well and be prepared to run down a lot of dropshots, then he has a chance for the final.

Lapentti doesn't play tons of dropshots at this event. Just a few through three matches. If Yayo didn't stay in casino for too long, he should take Nico out.

Lapentti must be sick, he loves the dropshots and as for Massa, well SF points are good anyway, it would be good if he could win a challenger this year somewhere.

His dropshots don't even reach the net - maybe that's why he avoids playing them. Yesterday in 2nd set Massa played awesome dropshots - each was a won point. Well what can I say, Vamos Nico in the final.

Massa rather strangely has decided to play in Bangkok, he must be going for the women or something. He is playing Nieminen in the 1st round, so he will be out and maybe have some fun on the town.

Default Re: Edgardo Yayo Massa Thread

Massa must have his reason to go to Bangkok, but anyway it's his last match report from the Szczecin's website:

Quote:
Nicolas Lapentti is the first finalist:

Even that Edgardo Massa was trying hard - he didn't win the pass into the final. Nicolas Lapentti won 7:6(4) 6:4.

The mood in Ecuadorian team before the match was very good: Lapentti's coach was singing at the shower and popping into the press office dressed just in scanty panty. Lapentti himself was giving an impression of a person ready for success. Edgardo "Yayo" Massa played a good knife and fork with pasta dish, and was rather anxious about the upcoming confrontation with his good friend. Finally, a man with the past and the man after ordeals (I mean injuries) showed up on the court.

The match started with lifted area research, and for Massa it turned out to be sligy - Ecuadorian led 2:1 after a break. Lifts were still flying from one side to another, to 3/4 court's lenght, and Massa proved he can even win a point with a topspined smash. Overall, whoever risked of playing a flat ball, won a point. Both players from the beginning to the end were realizing their folds of tactics, and both were fighting for a victory. Massa was experiencing his sufferies in a very spectacular way, for instance by throwing a ball to the stands (a lifted one, of course). Lapentti was as calm as a sheep on the field - times when he was breaking racquets with similar ease to women's hearts are gone. The Argentine out of the sudden started to serve aces, the Ecuadorian revenged with some doublefaults and we could finally witness a tie-break. Lapentti started his sixth deciding game in this tournament (singles and doubles) with saying "Vamos" with his low, hoarse voice tembre, and then he bothered a walk towards the speed counter. He covered himself with a white piece of frote towel and started talking with Enrique Perez, his coach. Such things are forbidden, so the player was risking a warning or a penalty point. Throughout the set Massa playing a poorman's rolling motion, which supposedly was a dropshot borrowed from his yesterday's rival. In tie-break he proved his real worth in this area, and until the end of the match every dropshot action was a point for him. Not the end of attractions: Lapentti hit the winner on the line, the ball bounced and hit two young people sitting on the stand at the same time. A while later, the net attack didn't help Massa, as his opponent lobbed him. Massa manage to come back and play the ball between his legs, but Lapentti was already waiting to volley him away. Lapentti's doublefault was only a moving the execution in time, because he won the tie-break to four.

At the beginning of second set, Lapentti's serve disarranged for real, what born a break-fruit. The re-break was hanging in the air like the sword over prisoner's neck, because Massa's service games were equal. Finally - despite leading 40:0 he managed to lose this game, and two next ones in a wholesale trade. But Argentininan is a campaigner. He got another break thankfully to his offensive style. Anyway, it looked like the stone fell from his heart straight on his foot, because two doublefaults aren't usually the greatest weapon against the matchpoints. It meant at the end of that good match we saw another break, and after a while both players were kindly greeting the audience. The winner was just a wee bit better, but still better.

Massa winning a set of Nieminen indoors and yes it's still funny even though Nieminen had Davis Cup and to adjust to the surface.

Hope he had a good time in Bangkok and got some massage like Erlich/Ram have done this week.

I am lazy to do the research right now, but I reckon this has to be one of his last PR tournament, so scratching a couple of points to get at least inside the top 200 would be a succesful comeback for him.

Good luck
