Re: Simon Greul
So far on the season Simon has a 7-13 record, his best result being a 3rd round at Indian Wells beating Gasquet and Monfils. This week he played Munich, making the second round, beating Kiefer and losing to Cilic 5-7 in the third set. His next scheduled tournaments are Madrid next week, Nice in two weeks, and then RG.
Lets hope for a good run of events for Simon!

Re: Simon Greul
Here is Simon's section of the draw at Madrid:
Bellucci - Riba
Monaco - Greul
Almagro - Troicki
Bye - Soderling
Very tough draw for Simon. His only saving grace is Pico has not been playing well and has a wrist injury he's playing through. On paper though, it is likely a R1 loss for Simon.
Good luck Simon, hopefully you can pull off a few upsets in Spain!

Re: Simon Greul
Simon was unfortunately destroyed 1-6 1-6 by Pico in Madrid. He held his serve one time in the match and won 33 points compared to Pico's 56. Simon simply doesn't have the weapons to beat higher-level clay court players consistently.
Good luck in Nice, Simon.

Re: Simon Greul
Does anyone have any information on Simon as to why he's been dropping out of so many events lately? Injury? Personal? Why isn't he playing?

Re: Simon Greul
Great, thank you!
Hope Simon has a good 2010 and can get that top 100 position back. He should be able to do so since he doesn't have tons to defend.

Re: Simon Greul
J'burg QF vs van der Merwe!
Would be de Voest or Devvarman in semis.
Would be Dancevic Mannarino Anderson or K Beck in final.
It's possible!

Re: Simon Greul
Simon unfortunately got sick in J'burg, and it hurt his results for a while. He had a good result in Barcelona by qualifying and making the second round, and now he's playing the Zagreb challenger and plays Martin Klizan in R1. He has little to nothing to defend the next few weeks so hopefully he can have some good performances and make the top 100 again!

Re: Simon Greul
2011 was a difficult season for Simon as he struggled for fitness and confidence throughout the season. After the Zagreb event where he lost R1, Simon made the final qualifying round of the French Open before being defeated, the QF of the Furth challenger and won the Kosice challenger in early June, his 12th career challenger title. Unfortunately, after this positive run of from, Simon only made one more QF the final five months of the season and finished 2011 losing five straight R1 matches at the challenger/ATP qualifying level. He finished 2011 ranked #154 in the world.
The start of 2012 was similarly very difficult. Simon lost his first five matches to begin the season on hardcourts before defeating Bemelmans 6-2 6-4 in R1 of Rotterdam qualifying. Simon made the SF of the Rabat challenger during the Moroccan challenger tour before losing R1 at his last event in Marrakech.
Simon is currently ranked #189. His next scheduled event is this upcoming week in St. Brieuc. Hopefully he can get his season and career back on track with a title in France!

Re: Simon Greul
Simon lost R1 in St. Brieuc to Ouanna 4-6 4-6. Tough draw for him and unfortunately he couldn't come through with the victory. Hope for better his next events!

Re: Simon Greul
Should retire soon.
Losing to Dieter Kindlmann is a warning sign to my mind.
