He played very very well in that final match. I think the 3rd set only went to a tiebreak because he was getting a little bit nervous. He was so subdued when he won the match, I had to tease him about it afterwards because some of his supporters seemed more excited than he was.

Zack beat Gonzo in the first round at LA tonight 7-6 6-4, he got broken serving for the first but managed to hold nicely to serve out the match. He must be so thrilled, I remember when he beat Spadea there 2 years ago and he was walking around so happy, everyone congratulating him. Must be a great feeling to have such a great win in your home court

That's a very, very impressive win. It has to be the biggest of his career I would think.

Extremely impressive for Zack. Now it's a Kendrick/Fleishman second rounder, I can't lose.

As I said in the IW thread, he had an accident while he was out on his bicycle. He has torn some things in his left shoulder and will be out for a while. I wrote to him when I noticed he was pulling out of everything and he gave me the news.

Get well soon Zack.

BTW, does anyone has news about John-Paul Fruttero? His last match was in October 2007 (USA F26), he retired from the match against Serbian Ilija Vucic with a back injury when was leading 6-4 5-6.

JP will be back at the end of this year, beginning of next season I think. Not sure of the exact date, but he has not retired.

Zack might be playing the Countrywide Classic in Los Angeles next month. He's started hitting again.

sorry for posting about Fruttero here again (he doesn't have his own thread), but I just found out he is inactive due to doping
http://www.itftennis.com/antidoping/...rticleid=18322

And Fleishman is signed for US Open qualies he is not signed for next weeks American Challengers and his ranking is not enough to appear in alternates lists of the ATP events, but maybe he will play in Los Angeles and Washington before US Open (or get a WC or even play qualies at the Challengers)

Yep, that's the story with JP ( I wasn't going to publicize it). He told me about it when I saw him in May and he is very bummed, but he's staying in shape and playing prize money events whenever he can (he just played the Cleveland Classic doubles event last weekend).

Zack has a protected ranking and he can use that to get into the LA and Washington qualies, so he'll get some matches in before he heads to NY. He might also play this Battle of the Sexes event this weekend, but it will probably conflict with the LA qualies.
