Both, I think he served up 74% first serves and his fastest serve was 142 mph. At the other hand Verdasco is not a good returner so...

Re: The "ok, get some cheetos, drill some forehands, and don't upset Jen" Miami Threa
Yeh i saw the whole match, and i was quite impressed considering how crappy he has been playing. I mean if he played that match vs Federer... :retard: i don't think i need to say any more.
But something the studio people said after the game, Andy's went back to basics, a la 2003 when he won the USOpen. He stood 90 million miles (my own exaggeration not there's) behind the baseline and just powered his way through the game, but now it can't happen all the other players have moved their games up so what Andy must be doing is taking it back and regrouping all over again. I think, considering it wasn't working last year whatever it was he was trying to do, that this is probably a good thing going back to the mindset of 03 or watever, but he has to change that baseline thing. I don't think he actually knows he looks like a dumbass when he does go that far back i mean...i refuse to believe he is dumb enough to think that winners can be hit that far back...i refuse point blank, he isn't the smartest fishy in the pond but i don't believe he's that stupid.
I mean i don't wanna get all optimistic about his chances, i did that last week. He got through 2 games and we were all "maybe its changing" and then we'll see how it goes this week, is serving is but although its a really good weapon to have its not enough anymore

Maybe if he can get his confidence back with the things that worked so well in 03, it will carry over to the rest of the game

wtf why is ESPN on from noon-3 tomorrow? Andy's match likely won't fit into that as that's right in the middle of the first match (which could be long) and Sugiyama/Kuznetsova which also could be long. Why if matches start at 11, would they start coverage noon? either start at 11 or 1, dipshits.

------------
A very pleased John Roddick breaks down the numbers on Andy's defeat over Fernando Verdasco.
"Andy played really well and seemed very relaxed out there. His first serve percentage was a solid 75 percent and when he got chances to look at second serves, he was very successful at converting those opportunities. Unfortunately Robby Ginepri isn't feeling well, so the boys had to pull out of the doubles competition this afternoon. I'll check back soon for a look at tomorrow's match against Simon Greul."

Upstart from Germany to face Roddick
STEVEN WINE
Associated Press
KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. - Andy Roddick heads into the fourth round of the Nasdaq-100 Open with only sketchy information about his next opponent.
"I know what he looks like," Roddick said.
Qualifier Simon Greul is a 24-year-old German ranked 130th. He came to Key Biscayne with a career record of 1-5 on the ATP Tour. Unnerved playing on the stadium court Monday, he won a total of four points in the first set against Tim Henman.
But the upstart from Stuttgart rallied to beat Henman 0-6, 6-1, 7-5, and he'll face Roddick on Tuesday.
"I'm going to ask around and try to get more of an in-depth scouting report," Roddick said.
It's an improbable pairing in a section of the draw that included Grand Slam champions Marat Safin and Lleyton Hewitt. Greul outlasted both and eliminated three top-60 players himself - Paradorn Srichaphan, Dominik Hrbaty and Henman.
"It's the first big tournament for me, and now I'm in the last 16," Greul said. "So that's unbelievable."
Roddick, striving to shake an early season slump, dominated with his serve to beat No. 31-seeded Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 6-4.
Also advancing was No. 9 James Blake, who hit 41 winners and beat No. 23 Jarkko Nieminen 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Blake broke serve six times and needed only 22 minutes to take the final set.
.....
Roddick has yet to reach a final this year and slipped from third to fourth in the rankings last week. After losing in the fourth round at the Australian Open, he hired older brother John as his coach.
"He's the same guy I've always known," Andy Roddick said. "It's good, because I'm not so patient with myself out there. So it's nice to have someone with a little bit more even-keel head and bigger picture in mind sometimes."
John Roddick scouted Greul's match and watched the qualifier lose the first seven games. Greul acknowledged being nervous, even with the stadium mostly empty for the morning match.
"At the beginning I said, 'Stay calm and play my game and focus on each point,'" Greul said. "It didn't work that well in the first set."
But Greul settled down and broke Henman's serve five times in the final two sets, including the last game. The comeback left Henman shaking his head after the match.
"No doubt the most bizarre I've ever played. I'm shocked, really," Henman said. "His level went from nonexistent to playing some pretty good stuff in the space of a game."
Greul neutralized Henman's serve-and-volley tactics, coming forward himself and winning 19 of 25 points at the net.
"I wanted to keep the pressure on him," Greul said. "If he's putting the pressure on me coming to the net, it's difficult for me. So I tried to come to the net, force him to make some mistakes, and it worked. Normally I'm a baseliner, but I'm trying to go to the net more often."
Roddick, take note.
