Re: Rafa "fedkilla" Nadal Cheering Thread
Yooo... okay, I was watching (and really anticipating beforehand) the Marcos/Nadal match... I really really thought that would be a tough one.. Well, Marcos played pretty well, but Nadal was ON FIRE in that 2nd set. I mean, Marcos has a NICE groundstroke game, but Nadal's defense is just amazing. The match made me realize something, though.
On some instances, Nadal got a few shorter balls that I am almost certain Federer would have been able to put away for winners. Nadal isn't able to or won't do so consistently. So I think that clearly, Federer has the edge in finishing shots and the mid-court (shortball) game... I mean, don't get me wrong, Nadal is top-10 in this department, but Federer is simply the best at that... But then, I also realized that as often as commentators like to put Federer (and sometimes Hewitt and Blake) into the same category as Nadal as the top defensive players, after watching last night, it became clear to me that Nadal HAS NO EQUAL in playing defense.
I think since Nadal is more of a natural clay-courter, he simply enjoys playing defense... that's his game! He can play offense very well, but he lives off his defense... Federer doesn't enjoy playing defense as much and likes to finish points quicker... Basically, Federer is better on offense than Nadal and likes to play more offensively, but Nadal is better on defense than Federer and plays more defensively.
Go RAFA!
He might not get past Blake, though. Blake's pace really takes away from Nadal's looping forehand (look back to U.S. Open).
