Default San Jose Final: Hewitt vs. Murray. Who wins?

I would normally say that Hewitt would feast on players like Murray who have an inconsistent first serve, but I really don't know this time. Hewitt is no where near his best and Murray is gaining confidence week by week. A win here and he is in the top 50.

Hewitt in 3 sets. Lleyton is currently not at his best, but as you said, he could take advantage of Murray's first serve... At least, I couldn't imagine potato will lose a final to a young gun lower ranked than him.

Hewitt will win , Murray is capable of winning this match if he plays superb tennis, which he can.

Lleyton as long as he isn't distracted by Murray's womanly style of play.

Hewitt will be especially motivated now to prove his superiority to Roddick by beating the same young player that Roddick lost to. I think Murray can cause him problems if he mixes up the game well, off-pace balls and varied placement and then sudden injections of pace, which he is capable of doing, but as said above if he has one of his barren spells on the first serve Hewitt will eat him for breakfast. I say either a tight two sets for Hewitt, or else a three-set win losing the first set then winning the next two convincingly.

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

I don't like this matchup for Murray at all UNLESS he can serve at a high % which he almost never does. Murray needs to be really aggressive on Hewitt's weak 2nd serves and get into winning positions quickly because I don't think he can win a bunch of long rallies against Hewitt; the points where he would be in the advantage against Roddick, he will be at a disadvantage against Hewitt.

Yeah, when hell freezes over. He'll stay behind the baseline and hit a softie back in the middle of the court like always unless he decides to try out some of the Bay Area's finest blotters from Haight and is tripping his ass off out there.

^If he doesn't, Hewitt will hae to playing some of his most potent weenie tennis for Murray to have a shot, but that's not totally out of the realm of possibility these days.

Now I'm a big Murray fan, but I say Hewitt in 2. Llyton is a completely different player to Roddick. He'll win the baseline rallies for sure. Andy needs to do something different, perhaps draw Hewitt to the net and hit some sublime passing shots. OR keep him pinned at the baseline and then ocassionally come in to finish off the points. He can't bank on Hewitt making a lot of mistakes. Andy really needs to mix things up to win this one.
