Default Seb's 2004 season

People, lets get serious and discuss Seb's 2004 season. What should be his points of improvement to end next years' season in higher race position?

and I'll post a reply immediately just to make the number of my posts double digits (hurrah!!!).

I think first of all that he could show a bit more initiative, play a bit more aggressive. Sometimes it seems as if he's just hanging on and waiting for the other player's mistakes.

It's probably not possible, but any chance he could reduce the injuries? They seem to haunt him, keep coming back to upset his schedule. I'm not a coach, don't really know how or what he can improve, but maybe the problem is more a mental one? Sometimes he seems to hold back in really important matches, as if he's too tense or nervous to play his game - at Queen's I suppose it could have been the previous injuries, but he actually looked a bit shaky, as if he couldn't quite believe that he'd made it to the final. He who hesitates loses - just my opinion. And to wait for the other's mistakes is really the worst and the dumbest thing to do! He should aim to stay in control of the match. That said I really think he has improved his serve already.

By the way, does anyone know what tournaments he will play next year, apart from the Grand Slams?

I've just a beginning of answer to ur question, with an interview of his coach (sorry, not in english).

03 novembre 2003

Thanks for the information, Marine, but what's happening with Kooyong Classic? It doesn't show up on the list of ATP tournaments on the ATP site. I know it's in Melbourne and that Agassi sort of exterminated Grosjean in this year's final. Can you tell me more about it?

Kooyong is like 2 seconds from my school and Spain's going to be traning there next next week before Davis cup...i will have some stalking to do hehehe

but i've never being before. i was close to going last year but my parents were being tight so i couldnt...but its a round robin tournament and its EXHIBITION so thats why its not an 'atp' tournament...they dont get any Race poitns from it, its purely just match practise.

obviously the injury thing is the biggest problem. maybe along with motviation some of the time *rolls eyes* but they say that every year and theyre obviously trying to arrange his schedule so it reduces the risk of him having to take that time around RG-Wimby off coz of injury but like theyve experienced in the last few years its not that easy...

hopefully the whole not playign DC round two will make a difference because we all know how well he can play without injury and who knows what will happen next year if he can avoid them!!!!!!

So that's the explanation. Always wondered why I couldn't find it anywhere on ATP lists. So he didn't really make it to 3 finals, did he, as Kooyong is just for practise...still, he must have beaten a few players to earn the right to get whipped by Agassi! Let's hope he stays injury-free next year and makes it to Masters!

I agree with you Ulla, about the mental problems (seemed the same in his semi final at Wimbledon. Maybe he should hire a mental coach (yuk).
And the aggressive playing style is maybe just not in line with his character (bless him).

Maybe he should pick his tournaments more selectively to stay injury free.

Thank you Marine for the Thierry Tulasne interview. I will have to decipher it first, though.

with the wimby semi final...as shattered as i was about that, mark did really play too well

about kooyong... he would have LOST to malisse, but luckily malisse retired...he played a great match against Philippousis (i was watching that last night ) and played a crap match against Agassi

What I always notice is that he always makes so many mistakes at the most important points. I can get soooo frusterated and sooo angry.. But I don't know if you can work on that, it's maybe the mental thing you guys mentioned..

Service is going pretty well the last few times. You can really see that he's working really hard on that..
The thing he really has to work on is his backhand.. Players who play against him, always attack his backhand, because he has a forehand that's really amazing and everybody knows that, so they attack his backhand and I think that it's not his strongest thing. So yeah that's what I think.

So Seb is coming to Rotterdam, sooooo cool. I'll go there this year, I hope he won't get injured and will make it to the quarters then!!
Esther so funny you gonna stalk Seb .. If I was there I would help ya..
