Alex Bogomolov jr and wife Ashley Harkleroad went out together, as married couples do. It was about lunchtime, but scarcely a date. In quick succession, each one won the second round of the Australian Open qualies.
Each came with a dream of making the main draw, for Ashley quickly won her match. Bogie matches lasted a little more than three hours. they have had longer dinners.. "kind of weird" when they discovered that they were to play back-to-back on court 6, but at least it meant that each could cheer and watch each other's match. Will be doing it again today on court 7, husband and wife are a good entertainment at the qualies
Court 7 (start : 10am)
1. (2)Ashley Harkleroad vs Vania King
2. (10)Olivier Patience vs Alex Bogomolov Jr.
Harkleroad cheered sympathetically when Bogomolov won a point, loudly when a linesman made a call in his favour. These are second-round rituals. But turned into an epic battle between Alex Bogomolov Jr and Canadian Frederic Niemeyer.
Bogomolov Jr finally clinched his way into the final round 6-7 (9-11) 6-2 12-10, finding a way to break Niemeyer's booming serve when it counted most.
As they go today for their final round of qualification both Alex and Ashley can't afford to take the wins too high, nor the losses too low," " both have pretty good balance." .
