Nalbandian is getting clingy. I think he loves Andy as much at croat123 does.

Ridiculous for Andy to win 7-8 total titles just to be #1.
So, he needs around 80 wins!
We need more grass & rebound ace events to
separate the well-rounded players from 1 surface
ones!
The season's way too loooooong.

well today's loss doesn't help the "quest" but it doesn't really hurt it either.

Just makes Paris even more huge. Andy has about a week to figure out how to beat David again, indoors in Europe.

The only "good" news I guess is that David won in two close sets. David still has to play well to beat Andy. Hopefully Brad will work with Andy's confidence.

i'm sure Federer has been praying HARD to the tennis gods to keep Nalbandian away from him in the draws. second week in a row he's sent David to Roddick's way. well his loss isn't soo big anyways, because Andy couldn't make up big enough ground. he could have made some ground, but not much. now he has a few more days off to rest and to work on his game. David is seeded to meet Andy in the quarters at PAris, but who says David will get there??? or Andy for that matter. i'm pretty sure that it's all gonna come down to the Masters Cup, and its played on outdoor hardcourts, Andy's fav surface, and im sure it doesn't hurt to have a pro US crowd with him the whole while he's there. yes Andy can definitely do some major damage in the rankings, both the entry and the race, if he comes up with the goods at Paris, but these last few TMS series are always weird, with people falling, people sneaking through. i'm sure Brad has a lot of things to say to Andy, and the SNL stunt will definitely help him i think. it'll get him away from tennis, and that does help him because he's gonna be more at ease. all i have to say is that regardless of what goes down in the final stretch of the year, Andy has had an AMAZING year, only Ferrero has done a little better than him this year so far, imo. and if he doesn't reach the #1 this year, he has the whole first half of 2004 to steal it away from Ferrero or whomever happens to be holding onto that spot. all we can do is cheer him on, and cheer hard. go Andy go

It *mostly* comes down to Houston, not entirely. Paris is HUGE.

If Roger were to pull out, he'd have pretty much no shot at the y-e #1. If Andy loses early and then Ferrero goes on to win, Ferrero would be 100 points up on Andy, which would make Andy pretty much have to win Houston to get the #1.

Nalbandian could have a tough early match in Paris in Calleri, but Nalbandian is obviously on fire right now and is a great indoor player anyway. Hopefully Brad will get through to Andy between now and then and it won't become an issue, but Andy's GOT to improve on how he played in Madrid and Basel if he wants to 1: do well in Paris and 2: do well in Houston and 3: end the year at #1. How he does in Paris will be a huge indicator, IMO.

The Nalbandian pigeondom couldn't last forever

Hopefully Andy will get some revenge in Paris...

But you know what, kids?

IT DOESN'T MATTER.

This GM nonsense...who cares? Just put a nice picture of Andy with his US Open trophy as your avatar (like mine) and smile and congratulate everyone, because no matter what they say about Andy never playing anyone good/being just a serve/needing the crowd/only winning on hardcourt, Andy has that trophy and nothing they say will ever take it away from him.

We have a slogan at my uni: "Act Like You Know." It means that no matter what is said or done, all the students need to have the attitude that we are important. This way we'll avoid confrontation and foolish behavior.

So when it comes to GM...act like you know that Andy's accomplishments can't be erased by the lustful ramblings of croat123 or the Duck Hunters. They don't matter because WE KNOW what Andy has done, WE KNOW they're angry about it, and WE KNOW that our boy is worthy of the acclaim.

So act like it.

That's my "Mr. Rogers" moment of the year

Go Andy!

I've heard enough
about the crowd making him win.
When he's playing
sluggishly, like in Indian Well, they aren't helping.
U.S. fans aren't nearly as obnoxious as the those from Spain. LOL

I disagree about Ferrero having a better year, because he had more clay events-where only a few
guys are very consistent on. Many players are
experienced on hardcourt...that's the difference.
Even the up/down record on European clay & in Madrid doesn't erase Andy's quick success on grass, rebound ace, outdoors...which Ferrero doesn't have at 23.

Andy took a long break already...which I knew made
him slow & overanxious. He should've played
in Vienna, & seeing from his interview, he's talking
too much about getting to #1 instead of
adjusting his game for Europe & Houston.
Now, he's scheduled an exhibition before Aus Open
but complained about playing too much...come on,
be a little consistent, Andy.

Brad (Loud Mouth) is taking
too much credit for Andy's court behaviour.
Andy won't calm down---this loss taught him
a lesson. He needs a dose of reality check!!!!

reasons he lost:
He kept standing far back...will he budge from the
baseline

He still thinks it's not disappointing...stop denying!
Will not practice his volleys...hello?

What's with all the racquet throwing
even when the score was tied? There's no need
to get flustered & scream.*shuddering*

I saw a clip of
Schuttler slamming a racquet twice too.

That's why I like female tennis players' demeanors better.

Andy just doesn't seem to play as well when he gets angry. I love his emotions but the anger is what seems to lead him to making mistakes.

His standing SO far behind the baseline (aka his match against Ljubicic) to receive serve worries me. I know they said he and Brad talked about it and decided to try it, but it seems to not be working well.

Brad HAS done a lot with his mentality. There's no other way to explain his immediate success as his coach - it's not like he had enough time to change his game for Queen's Club, Wimbledon, etc. The calmness seems to do well for Andy and I'd rather see that than him get angry.

The thing is that Paris is very important for Andy. It's actually getting quite tight now. I don't know about you guys, but at the beginning of the fall season, right after the US Open, I was thinking that it was gonna be quite easy for Andy to take over the #1 ranking and end year on top. Then that all gradually slipped away. lol. It really is a close race now...and Andy better shape up quickly.

If Andy loses in 2nd round (since first round is bye) at Paris, and Ferrero wins it....even if Andy wins Houston, he won't have #1 if Ferrero reaches the final. Ferrero at the moment is already a few hundred points ahead of Andy. Yes I know JC has 400 points to defend at Houston. But if you think about it and work the math out just by estimating/rounding, Andy won't be #1 for sure even if he wins Houston and flakes out in Paris. And that's IF Andy wins Houston in that scenario. We can't all be too comfortable and just assume Andy will win Houston just because it's in the U.S. and it's outdoor hardcourt lol. Can't just rely on him doing well there, and think that it's "sorta ok" if he does terrible at Paris cuz "oh he's still got Houston".

We won't even know how well Andy is gonna do there period. Sure Andy is a great outdoor hardcourt player. But what if Andy plays David in the round-robin first round? lol..that can suck really bad. And Roger is a big threat to take Andy out too. Not to mention Andre as Andy barely squeaked by Andre when he beat him on Queens grass. And JC may actually be on his game and play his best. And Rainer has Andy's number on hardcourts too. LOL..I'm making it depressing and a lil worrysome aren't I? lol

Sooo....Andy please play better.
