Re: The "JCF: 3 wildcards won in 2005 so be the first in 2006!" Sydney Cheering Thread
It's a shame he had to play a big server at the start of the year but at least it was Sydney, not Melbourne. I don't hate big servers - I like Andy Roddick. It's just so frustrating to see JC's preperation for the AO hampered by an ace-machine.

Awh he did play well? Well that makes it all slightly better Now he just has to work on the actually winning matches bit!

We shoulda called THIS thread "Beauty over ugliness"...then maybe El Muppeto woulda beaten Caveman!
But alas...ugly won over beauty in Sydney.
Seems cavemen abound there...Robutto just got his butt kicked by his caveman Tursunov!

Here's a semi-interesting stat from Sydney:
Juanqui had the 4th fastest serve (as of today anyway ) at 201 km/h.
1. Taylor Dent -- 235 km/h
2. Chris "Caveman" Guccione -- 222 km/h [or should that be Chris "son of Bob" Guccione??]
3. Arnaud Clement -- 204 km/h

Re: The "JCF: 3 wildcards won in 2005 so be the first in 2006!" Sydney Cheering Thread
James Blake mentioned Juanqui in his ATP blog from Sydney...
" Tuesday, January 10, 2006
It was starting to get late when I got back to the hotel after the first-round win against Sanguinetti so the celebration was pretty reserved. I just ordered some room service and caught up on some emails. This morning I got up at 9.15 am and practiced with Ferrero for an hour from 11 am. I got a massage and actually fell asleep on the table.
Two minutes before walking out for practice my coach told me I was hitting with Ferrero instead of Taylor Dent, which was fine with me. I guess Ferrero saw that Taylor had canceled after losing his match the day before. Switching from indoors at the Hopman Cup to outdoors in Sydney can be tough, but hopefully Taylor will use the extra practice time he'll now get in Melbourne to have a great Australian Open.
Ferrero and I warmed up for a long time and then played a set..."

Re: The "JCF: 3 wildcards won in 2005 so be the first in 2006!" Sydney Cheering Thread
but this is really good news - that means his serve IS improving, doesn't it?
so he has better chances on grass

Re: The "JCF: 3 wildcards won in 2005 so be the first in 2006!" Sydney Cheering Thread
I'd like to see him really go for his 1st serves a lot more now. It might mean lowering his 1st serve % but, on grass, it's better to take more risks like that.
201km/h is about 126mph - not bad but another 5-10mph would be needed to win Wimbledon, I think.
