what was the reason for the huge collapse at 6-2 2-0* ??
he took a 2-set time-out there

Jarkko had so many chances, he really should've taken this match. Well, at least he showed that he's a major challenge to anyone, I think. By the way, it was pretty interesting that Jarkko admitted being really disappointed after the match, he usually doesn't do that. In some way it's a great thing, because he must have quite a lot of confidence if he's unhappy after a great fight against world no.4!!! I hope this makes some sense...

Jarkko fought bravely, no question about it. But I think his choice of tactics was not correct. He played an incredible 1st set, but from the 2nd set Nalbandian took over. Why? Because Jarkko was not able to prevent David from dictating from the forehand.

I was asking myself the whole time, why was it that Jarkko kept hitting about 80% of his shots straight back to David's forehand. It must've been a deliberate decision since he didn't hit to Nalbi's backhand even if that side was wide open. So Jarkko must have thought fh is the weaker side for Nalbandian.

In the 1st and 4th sets Nalbi actually made quite a few fh errors, but in 2nd and 3rd sets it was rock solid. And then Jarkko couldn't control the points but was running left and right like a dog. David won over the control because Jarkko couldn't make him run. Many times Jarkko actually hit a good serve or service return, got a weak reply from David and a chance to start dictating the point. But what did Jarkko do? Hit it to Nalbi's fh and let him take over. Jarkko kept hitting down the line and David kept hitting cross-court.

In sum, Jarkko tried to play a little bit like he played against Hewitt in USO QF, but the difference is that David is far better than Hewitt in dictating baseline exchanges and doesn't make too many ue's from the fh. That's why Jarkko should've used cc forehands to David's bh much more, even looping the ball once in a while. On the run David's shots are not as dangerous as Jarkko's.

My day is officially ruined.

It will be difficult for Jarkko to have success in week 5-8, but I'm sure he can cause some damage at the Masters Series. I think he has enough rest in his schedule because of week 10 and 12.

week5 Zagreb
week6
week7 Marseille
week8 Rotterdam
week9 Dubai
week10 Indian Wells
week11 Indian Wells
week12 Miami
week13 Miami
week14 Finland vs Ireland

Overall, there were a lot of encouraging signs in the Nalbandian match (and the whole season in Australia and NZ), and then some disappointing things. But it's clear Jarkko is moving up and he will be a major contender in the upcoming tournaments - and Slams!

Jarkko seems to have taken it pretty hard the loss to Nalbandian. I mean normally he says something positive in an interview after a loss, something like "I'm happy with my game overall" or "the week was really good for me". But now he said he was very disappointed losing to David.

What do you think, how will it affect Jarkko's game and self-confidence, and will he be able to keep up his great form in the upcoming weeks and months?

Jarkko looked pretty dejected after the loss in doubles last night. I thought they could have won it, but sh!t happens. Jarkko walked away with an older man (not sure if it was a coach/dad/guest, but in comparison to robert Lindstedts reaction to the loss... I think he'll be ok. He appreciated the card (had comments from about 7 people) so hopefully he'll read over it again and get motivated
