*NEW* Forehand & BH volleys... I would say my volleys are pretty solid, although most of these seem to be attacking volleys, because hand feeds are coming pretty slowly so while a volley usually you don't need to generate pace, I had to here... so I'll try and get some clips in open play, but for now here it is:

ORIGINAL POST: I am curious if anyone has any suggestions off my backhand, here's a vid I made a month or so ago of some BHs--would be interesting to see what people think; personally I think my backhand needs some work! thanks

I would say give yourself a little loop on your takeback and keep the racquet closer to your body on your takeback. It former should give you spin and the latter should add some power.

It's nice and compact, seems mostly flat obviously. Like the previous poster mentioned you might want to add some more topspin to your normal rally shot.

From personal experience you won't even have to swing as hard and you can still keep it deep and it is extremely effective. Your current backhand seems real good for going down the line and also putting away short balls. You know yourself better than us, but you might want more margin of error.

Oh yea, your backhand reminds me of Kafelnikov's a little. Pretty flat and a highish take back/preparation. Definitely not like some who directly take back the racquet waist high or lower and just brush straight up.

From the backhand it definitely looks similar.

Do you hit with much more topspin on your forehand, or still pretty flat?

i like the swing, but 1 hand-bh is my style, for me its more power, but less control.

I would if I could

Sometimes on a low ball pick up or something even from the back, I can use 1 handed but only ever defensively. And I also used double handed forehand on short balls and suchlike.

My forehand is pretty similarly flat, from the back... I will try and sort a clip of it.

Do I love Fee? Yes I do.

I have been working on some stability stuff for my backhand, wherein my left leg comes around to enable me to push off for the next shot (potentially a forehand) this just means I can get into position for both shots earlier. Haven't tried it on court yet, just did medicine ball stuff and suchlike footwork. Will try and video soon

Shouldn't do, the leg begins to move almost after the shot, i.e. on my follow through. It doesn't need to move any earlier as I wouldn't begin to move before [at least] I've hit it.

I see. Well, I sort of see. I'll be honest, I've been naturally blessed with decent footwork, so it is one part of my tennis that I have rarely had to think about (despite my creeping age and slowing reflexes!).

Keep us posted on this please.

Very simple advice here. Get your racket lower when your setting up. It will make it alot easier to put on more topspin as others suggested.
